I have no idea if there is a message or not when an SDI system blocks a missile, or if the SDI system even works. I did just have 50 nuclear missile strike messages with a 40% (8 sat) coverage and no blocked messages.
Does SDI work? If yes, having messages when you block a missile would be a nice addition!

Anyone have theories, thoughts, random rumors?

I just stopped building them, as i heard they cause lag and never saw them work.

Re: SDI blocked missiles - no message?
I don't personally use nukes (though I still build them out of a nod to realism), so I can't really help with this much. I believe I remember hearing old reports about them working, but I believe it takes a much higher percentage to be even marginally effective. And I think there was a building that helped with it too... But yeah, don't take my word on this. Very vague memory and probably jumbled up with other games so probably not right, but you asked for random rumors so that's what you get.

So maybe the telemetry building has a purpose after all.
