Missile use

Post by Beans »

I know GIJoe did a tutorial on nuclear missiles and I know how to launch those. However, I don't understand how missiles work. For them to work do I need to put them in the targeting pool as with the nukes? Then, how do I use them, because they don't automatically launch like the nukes. I just don't understand how I use them for airplanes, naval units, and artillery. Thanks in advance

The individual unit takes the missile. If it is a plane, you select the plane, the Unit Orders window comes up. The 5th icon down is a missile, click on it. This opens a window with 2 sides, the left shows missiles you may use, the right show the plane (unit) and its capacity. Click on a missile on the left panel, and press one of the icons to load. You can load a single missile, or a whole stack. It is simply transferring the missile from "storage" to the aircraft.

Further more, you can select a stack of missiles to "Auto deploy". This means, when a unit is in supply and has its ROE set to accept missiles, it is loaded automatically. This is good for things like Air Patrol over oceans where a plane will load and launch its missile IF it sees an enemy. All without you having to "babysit" it.

A few things to remember;

Global Rules of Engagement (GROE) - The setting for the Defense Minister. There is an option to turn off Auto Deployed missiles. This can be applied military wide if you desire, or turn it off, of course.

Unit Rules of Engagement (UROE) - Once you select a unit, its individual orders window appear. The third icon down is the Individual Rules of Engagement. Here is also a setting to turn off or on Auto Deploy. Keep in mind, there are many types of missiles and many roles you would want a unit to fill. Along the bottom of this window is a panel named Unit Roles with a row of icons. Each one represents a potential target for the unit you have selected. If you hover your mouse over them it will tell you what they are. As an example, if you want your unit to only load missiles for Anti Shipping, ensure only the "Engage Naval Targets" icon is highlighted/set. When the unit load missiles that is the only type it will load. You may have other units which you only want to load for Ground Targets, you can set them the same way, except click on Ground Targets.

One last word; When you are in the Missile Selection panel, you will notice on the right of each line of missiles is an icon. It looks like a missiles with a green target symbol. If you click on this and highlight it, it gives "permission" for these missiles to be Auto Launched. This is what allows your units to launch the missiles if they see a target. They will do so without you having to intervene.

If this is still unclear, let me know, we can chat on Steam while you are in game and looking at the actual panels.

Thanks, that helped. I will try to load and launch missiles later. Any future questions I may have on this subject will be posted here
