How do you use helicopters?

Could anyone write a short guide please on using helicopters? For the most part they seem useless compared to airplanes because they do less damage and they are easy target for infantry and interceptors. Where is their usefulness? I also suppose there are transport and supply helis? Are they useful? How? I have 0 experience with helis in this game.

I used to use them but came to the conclusion planes were better for attack. I did not provide any information about attack choppers because the only reason to use them would be role play, ln my opinion.

You could use them in areas like Tibet i guess. I only use attack choppers for getting rid of subs tho.

one advantage of helis is that they can land and resupply on ANY supplied hex.. where as planes will have to return to an airfield. Meaning in some niche situations they can resupply and attack again far faster than planes or return to a close supplied hex to refill on supplies to support units etc. As far as attack helis.. ya for the most part they aren't great. But can be useful in some niche situations.

Similarily transport/supply helis can easily deploy repick and deploy troops elsewhere making a highly mobile infantry force. Again with planes you would need to return the infantry to the airports to transport them again.

The video shows using helo's for resupply and transporting/deploying troops as you suggest Fistalis. I used them extensively in S. America, Africa and of course numerous islands around the map.

In the 2020 era I am partial to the V-44 Stork these days, used to be the Russian Yak 60 if I was playing a non US/aligned nation.

Thank you for all your replies. So it seems like attack helicopters can also be used against subs or maybe as support role in remote areas to flank/suppress enemy units that are engaging your land units maybe. Will have to experiment a bit.

I use transport helicopters quite often. They are useful in two roles: taking over islands and countries with limited supply. Usually when I'm playing the US, I load up a CV-5 or two with 5 Squadrons of Sea Stallions each. Whenever I end up fighting Cuba, Indonesia, or any island/african nation, I just send in the Sea Stallions and capture the major cities. Of course, its also a good idea to keep a Midway on station (best carrier in the game) to provide air support in case the enemy has more motorized units than you were expecting. B52s are also great for their huge attack power and range.

As for attack helicopters, they occasionally come in handy. Mostly I appreciated using a few groups of soviet hinds with spetznaz to take over South Africa a while back. Great for softening up the garrison units.
