South China Sea dispute

Post by samuel_1991 »

Hi BG, I am certain that everybody knows that recently Phillppines had won a court case with PCA, which "invalidates" China's historical claim.

Both China and Taiwan rejected the ruling with China steping up its military patrol over the area while Vietnam & Phillppines welcomed the ruling.

I hope that this dispute can be playable in SRU.

Thank you very much.

If this is playable, it should be the scenario where Phillppines, Vietnam, Brunei & Malaysia (All are claimants of various parts in South China Sea due to EEZ / Sovergnity - Putting China & Taiwan aside, Only Vietnam claims the area based on Sovergnity) makes an military alliance with the help of USA & Japan to counter Chinese's pressure. Taiwan on the other hand, tries not to get involved in the conflict with military means but does not give up its de facto claim (All disputed waters, islands, reefs & rocks were returned to ROC from Japan after WW2, despite the Treaty of San Francisco did not make a final mention of the fate due to the conditions then where PRC China is the de facto Chinese state and yet internationally unwilling to recognise this new rough state comparable to North Korea) so as not to anger the US.

Meanwhile, Taiwan face some pressure from Japan over the Senkakus as well as PRC. Somehow, the Taiwan is willing to cooperate with China only on the seas dispute because they viewed it as their ancestrol property that any legitmate Chinese government should fight for retaining its land.

Whereas, if the China fails, and Taiwan itself could not counter the situation, it will be a scenario where Vietnam needs to oppose against Phillppines' overlapping claims while Phillppines itself also have overlapping claims with Malaysia & Brunei at the same time...

Something along the lines of this, which is still open just as the actual debate is about that area;
