Units not under control...

Post by Aquila »

I have a very annoying problem with this game. I have huge army - a lot of land, air and naval units. I'd like to control land and air units myself (and have FULL control) and leave my navy to the AI. And here's my problem and my question:

can it be done?

My land units are on medium initiative, because I don't want to micromanage everything, so they should be able to do basic job (defend etc, but not attack and capture enemy territory since they often do it wrong).
Air is on high and navy is on full.

High initiative for air means that they should NOT reserve and deploy by themselves, and yet that's what they are doing. I'm at peace with my neighbours so I don't need to have dozens of bombers deployed - but when I send them to reserve - they immediately are deployed again. Against rules set by initiative.

There's also the "minister control" button in global ROE. When I turn it off and apply to all units - everything stops. Navy is on full initiative, but stops doing anything. I can finally send bombers to reserve and they do not redeploy, but losing AI control of the navy is not worth it.

So, as far as I see, there are only two options - either disable minister from doing everything and then micromanage the navy since it won't do anything on their own, or accept that minister will do stupid things like keeping a lot of bombers active during peace. Am I right?

You can select the units you want to manually control and turn off minister just for those units. I am uploading a video to show you exactly what I mean. Will post back here when done.

How to only control certain units, while leaving others under AI control. Also, I include a way to help your air force perform better in its assigned role.

Be aware, if you produce new units, they will fall under the Global Rules of Enagement, until/unless you do this for them also.

Wow, this video is very informative, thanks! And I have another question:

I'm playing 1936 scenario as Poland (it's 1943 and I own about 1/3 of Europe, everything captured in defensive wars :D ). I've just researched techs that enable building of my first MLRS units. I can build "missile trucks" but I can't build any missiles. I have missile production facility, but apparently there are no rocket designs for Poland (nothing I can chose do develop or produce). So I'll have to wait for someone else to design them and then buy the design? I'm in good terms with USA and France and UK, so I traded this tech with them but so far they do not have any missile designs for trade. I've heard many smaller nations in this game have much less designs than major powers and I think this sucks a bit. In this alternative scenario Poland is among top powers in the world, leading in tech (for example I'm researching nuclear weapons while US is stuck with first fission experiments :D ) but I can't design my own top tech equippment and I'm quite dependant on other, "historical" major powers.

Oh, and another one - how on Earth do spies work? I have one facility, 50 spies or something like that. They sit in their building and there's nothing I can do with them. I can't select them manually. There;s espionage screen under STATE tab, but whatever I click there - nothing happens. Maybe it's because I have only one "spy" unit and it has to be on counter intelligence only?

I am not certain about the MLRS issue. I will be up front with you and type, I have never played SRU in any time frame other than 2020. I do not know how the tech tree works prior to 2020.

Spies - Click on a hex, example Rome, where you wish to spy. Click on Espionage, once the window opens, top of the window is the number of spies you have, something like 50/50. To the right of that is an icon, if you hover your mouse over it, it reads "assign spies to map". Click on it and another window opens on the bottom right of your screen, to the left of the mini map, select mission type. Once you select a mission, your on screen "cursor", will indicate a white circle. Click on the map where you want that spy to go, with that mission.

NOTE: You may also, right click on map and select espionage to start the above sequence.

Thanks again, but... I have now another problem. I did as you said and...

Image

my espionage screen almost totally covers that another screen on which I can choose missions. And there's no way for me to make it more visible - I tried to hide the minimap (at first I thought it's blocking this new tab but that's not the issue), click on it - and nothing. I also tried to change the resolution, but it also didn't work (my max resolution on which I can play is 1280x1024, everything bigger just doesn't work properly). There are mission options partially clickable, so I can choose something:

but I have no idea what I'm choosing :D

Wow, what size screen are you using? Is that a 12 inch? I have no idea how to get around that, sorry.

EDIT: What I can tell you is, the three options are Recon, Espionage and Sabotage. Listed from top to bottom. In the above picture the last "dark" line should be Sabotage, one above it should be Espionage etc. Although you seen to have 4, I only have three "darker" selections. Maybe the first is IDLE and you are on a spy already deployed?

EDIT again: When you click on the small icon next to FOCUS, you should be able to choose a mission right there also.

Final Edit: I hope. In the 2nd picture you posted, the FOCUS icon shows a small camera.. That is Espionage. The icons for each mission type are as follows;

Recon - Small satellite
Espionage - Camera
Sabotage - A demolition box with plunger

15, it nicely fits the desk and actually it's absolutely ok for me :D Regarding options - I assume it's (from top) IDLE (or COUNTERESPIONAGE), RECON, ESPIONAGE and SABOTAGE, just like it's listed at the "focus" button.

Looks like you are playing at a resolution lower than minimum game requirements.

How do I make supply trucks resupply my units on their own? Ive set them to Minister control, high initiative, cautious approach, attack only by order, low tolerance.

the trucks need a safe path and your units must not in a battle... so its useless.
supply with planes works a little better, but the minister will send them often to area's which have low supply.

i handle the trucks and planes for myself because i hate it, when my tanks are silence ;)
