Army increase

Ok probably another newbie question but I'll ask it anyway. I have 200 elite guards in my country but when I go to war this number jumps up to almost 350. How is this happening? I need it to stop as my military upkeep multiplied by 10. Thanks!

You probably have your military advisor on, which means he is activating your reserves.

Go to the Military tab and click on the small icons at the bottom left. These will turn off the units from acting on their own.

Then lock the advisor from doing anything.
