Observation: WWII as a Cold War

So, playing USA, as usual. About Jan 1941, and Germany has overrun most of Europe and is pretty much at war with everyone.

So, I decide to make friends with Tangier and Morocco, both at war with Germany. I send in some troops, in preparation of the Great Liberation beginning in December 1941.

And my troops start shelling German units in Gibraltar, and my ships (and German ships) start fighting in the coastal waters.

Very cool. Plus it allowed me to sink a few German (former Spanish and French) ships before war actually starts.
