This game needs a map editor before before it goes backwards or forwards in time anymore. I would pay for a map editor expansion. Or a custom mode that lets you toy around with the regions while you're setting up a game without having to go through the hassle of modding it.

Instead of going science fictions, I would recommend to extent the game to the economic modeling and add a number of raw materials to make the resource approach more interesting. I think the main big conflicts have been covered well so far. Perhaps a SR1990 after collapse USSR and rise of global terrorism with more focus on military challenge to control these subversive elements.
