Proposed Change to Cold War Map

#1 Post by Balthagor » Nov 19 2014

Here is an area that the community could be of some help to us. Obviously the world remains a big place and everyone has different opinions of everyone else. What would be helpful is if people could share their comments here on who should think what of whom in 1949.

*Specific Requests for Posts in this Thread*
- Start your post with the country you are talking about
- You can talk about the big regions if you like
- If you want to talk about another country, start another post please. This will keep the thread easy to review.
- Opinions listed here will be considered, but we may make design decisions separate from the feedback given here.

Relations are, as of this writing, should be similar to what existed in the previous iteration of the Cold War map

Country: U.S.S.R

Change Request/Suggestion: Supply runs way too thin the more eastern Russia you go. This proves to be a problem because supply is cut off for about 8 hexes and it starts again, but this is a problem when sending units from western Russia to Eastern Russia to aid and assist North Korea. This cut off of supply makes the units stranded on this road. I feel Russia needs more supply (for all maps) because they are apparently the only country with a severe lack of supply.

Yugoslavia (relatively small,but complicated country)

Yugoslavia (SFRY,from 1943 to 1991) is pretty badly done,it is represented as a single country, but it was composed of 6 republics, more or less like USSR was composed,so Yugoslavia should be able to have ,,colonies,, like ussr and allow any of them to leave (also Kosovo should be inside that Serbia as was in the real life,Serbian authorities lost control of it in 1999,way after Yugoslavia was destroyed),so summary on how Yugoslavia should be done:
6 republics,which are:
-Slovenia
-Croatia
-Serbia
-Bosnia and Herzegovina
-Montenegro
-Macedonia

,but along with that there should be loyalty areas for
-Albanians:Kosovo (loyal to Albania),perhaps parts of Macedonia too
-Croats:part of Bosnia,blue on this map http://www.hercegbosna.org/slike_upload ... 901560.jpg
-Serbs: half of Bosnia (current day ,,republic of srpska,,) and parts of montenegro (blue on this map http://www.novosti.rs/upload/images/201 ... cka-CG.jpg) and maybe parts of Croatia called ,,republika srpska krajina,, (that's what the croatian war was for)
,these loyalty things aren't necessery, but would be nice, because then you could make a realistic ,,big albania, big croatia or big serbia,,

Also Yugoslavia should have way better relations with both USSR and USA,since Yugoslavia was best known for ,,walking on both sides of the street,, ,not allied with anyone, but simply light green or at least neutral with both sides,at the moment it is red with both sides and green with only some african countries...

Yea I agree with this, but Yugoslavia only being made up of colonies is like the United States being only made up of colonies sorta...

What he said.
Yugoslavia was a Federation. just like the USA is. the only difference is that the "states" had the constitutional right to leave, but the economy was centralized, and thus colonies wouldn't make any sense. I'd go a step further and say yugoslavia should only have yugoslav loyalty in the Cold War scenario.
This is coming from me a croat. while it's true that most croats and serbs don't feel to be the same nationality (including me) from a gameplay standpoint the differences would be comparable to Switzerland and Belgium. Up until the late 80ies yugoslavia didn't display anything that the game might represent as loyalty penalties. and i wouldn't take the breakup of yugoslavia as a reason to have the loyalties separate in the cold war scenario, just as Crimea isn't a separate loyalty in the cold war scenario.

As an aside, if you conquer Yugoslavia and then later try to release it, you can't. You can only give the territory to the smaller component states (Croatia, Serbia, etc.).

Spain (and France technically).
I think that you guys should consider adding in Basque loyalty to all the maps. I say this because you added in Inner Mongolian loyalty, Scottish loyalty, Northern Irish loyalty, Quebec loyalty, and Sicilian loyalty. Although all of those regions do have a separatist movement none of them (except Northern Ireland) have actually seen an insurgency take place in recent history. In contrast, the Basque region has had a low level, fairly unsuccessful insurgency going on for almost the entire Cold War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETA and so I think that clearly it is worth adding this loyalty into the game.

It would also be a good idea to add Catalonia loyalty in because there is a very significant separatist movement there that is considerably larger than the separatist movement in Inner Mongolia, a region that DOES have separate loyalty in game. In fact, Catalonia has even more separatist sympathies than Scotland or Quebec because in a recent referendum on independence 81% voted in favor of seceding from Spain! http://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2 ... dependence

When N. Vietnam gets defeated early on then you have a giant lump of France just south of China. This becomes ridiculous when you play into the 1980s and it eliminates Vietnam as a force.

Somehow the territory should go to S. Vietnam instead.

Country- Biafra

Biafra was a country in Africa during the Nigerian Civil War. It existed from 1967-1970, and it had a pretty significant impact on the world at the time. The war was also not asymmetrical like the Civil War taking place in Syria, so it could easily take place in the game. It could be added as a loyalty to the Cold War or even modern maps.

The Netherlands and Belgium

#10 Post by WouterDeJong » Nov 24 2016

I propose an adaptation to the loyalty map in general in the Netherlands, the area of Frysia (Friesland in Dutch, Fryslân in Frysian). The Frysians have their own language (recognized by the Dutch authorities as second national language) distinct culture/customs and history.

As for Belgium, the country is complicated, but basically consists of three main areas; Flanders, Wallonia, and the District of Brussels (kind of like the USA with DC as capital). The Wallonians (French-speaking) and Flemings (Dutch-speaking) do not get along too well so separating them in different loyalty regions seems the correct thing to do. Brussels is the capital city with a mixture of both peoples, so that region could be loyal to Belgium as a country whereas Flanders and Wallonia have their own loyalties.

Anyone more suggestions on this topic?

ARGENTINA: bigger army for start date since Argentina was one of the strongest nations after ww2 and change the 1955 coup leader from Morris to Lonardi and then Pedro Eugenio Aramburu
