Feedback request: Declare War GUI
I'm sure most of you have by now noticed the changes to the declaration of war panel. I have some thoughts on how to improve it further but David suggested we get user feedback. We have classically forced a "two push" system so users don't accidentally push it. The graphic design actually showed the button with the turned key pushed in but because it goes away as soon as you push it the second time, you don't actually get to see that graphic.
Any thoughts on this element?

Has kept me from going to war before I meant to more than once. Good change, IMHO.

I like the 2 push system but the key turning is hardly noticeable. You get a small ping sound like on everything else you push. I would suggest a key turning sound or something akin to some sort of short alarm or warning bell going off.We have classically forced a "two push" system so users don't accidentally push it.
Maybe even make some sounds region specific.

Well if not a key, what should it look like? Wide open to ideas on this...

Key works for me but you could use aWell if not a key, what should it look like?
Lighted Toggle switch turn from green to yellow to red.
Green button that pushed turns yellow then red when pushed again.
Whatever is used , I would suggest adding a sound to both pushes or turns or whatever to add depth. Anything other than that common ping thats associated with most clicks.

Only problem here is you would never see the red. Once it is "pushed again" you're at war and the button hides.Hundane wrote:Green button that pushed turns yellow then red when pushed again...

I like the aesthetic of the key, but it would benefit from a more noticeable animation and sound when turned.

Re: Feedback request: Declare War GUI
What about instead of the key turning sideways when clicking it, we instead make it "open a box" and a big red button appears. Could even use the old button as the second animation.
Would provide instant feedback to the user like hey maybe I shouldn't do this.

I like that. While protecting a key turn wasn't a "thing" until the '60s, the players do live in the modern world. In terms of symbolism, it's perfect.dax1 wrote:..........the plastic cover for protects the button...so you must open the cover before push the button..

Re: Feedback request: Declare War GUI
Just to clarify what I meant before, I was thinking keep what you have right now where
Key in slot
Click once = "turns key to the right"
Some sort of transition animation
Box appears with Red Button (could use red button from before patch 17)
Click the red button = "go to war"

Click the red button = "go to war"

Re: Feedback request: Declare War GUI
Only problem with this is the overhead perspective of the button. I do like this and it was sort of the concept for the Declare War button in Cold War. I'll see what our Graphic Artist can make of it...dax1 wrote:..........the plastic cover for protects the button...so you must open the cover before push the button..

Re: Feedback request: Declare War GUI
The new key feature suits very well. I never accidentally declared war on anyone..
YOu can also reload a saved game if it happens..
But in case you like to hear options, a 2 key dashboard is another option..
1 key to ARM the 2nd key
Once the 2nd is armed, you can turn it..
A "2-click" can happen if someone has a double click on very fast in the windows settings..
but by having 2 keys, 1 to arm and 1 to launch you even prevent the double click..
But in my opinion, leave it as it is.. like I said, if it ever happens, a double click going to war
accidentally, simply load a saved game.. shouldn't be that hard to load a saved game
