Training

Post by Jopo »

Ok, I want to create my own unit training options.

I located the training.csv file in the INI folder.

The arrangement of rows in this file is as follows:

ID, Cost per day per squad, Days to build, Types (unknown), Experience bonus, Nuke effects bonus, Biological effects bonus, Chemical effects bonus, Resvd (unknown), Name, Benefit (text), Notes, Estimated cost per battalion.

Could someone explain the unknown parts, the types and resvd (reserve days?) parts?

What types of training can be made available? Is there a list of types? I haven´t seen one in the wiki?

Also I noticed that there was no row describing in what terrain the training gives a bonus, so the Jungle, desert, urban etc. trainings all just give an exp bonus of 5, but no bonus related to the terrain, unless the bonus is coded elsewhere and related to the training id.

Also, there should be training options for spies in there but they have no descriptions.

So training units is no longer a possibility? Why? I think it´s a good idea to have different specialties for units or just for the EXP bonus alone. The best trained army wins the day or the best trained spies.

Can we as modders reactivate the training and put it back in the game? We already have the file in the database.

A question: I didn´t find the training option in the build menu either in CW or SR2020, is it possible to train units and how do you do that?

If it is not possible for modders to reactivate the training option then can the devs PLEASE reactivate it? I´d like to make my own training options for different unit classes with different effects.

Here´s some ideas on training effects:

* Infantry class units: Woodland training, higher close attack values and an EXP bonus, only effective in forested hexes.
* Infantry class: Urban training, higher close attack and EXP bonus, only effective in urban areas.
* Infantry class: Anti-tank training and EQUIPMENT, hard attack bonus plus an EXP bonus

* Air units: Top Gun/Red Flag training, better air-to-air combat values and EXP bonus

* Sea units: Naval wargames, better sea combat values and EXP bonus.

etc. etc.

The "training" elements from 2010 no longer exist. I'll move the thread to the development discussion so it can be discussed there.

I believe training should be brought back, it gives you options to specialize your units in different types of combat.

Here are some training types that come to mind:

Arctic training: If weather was a factor then this type of training could be implemented to specialize troops into arctic conditions.

Desert training: Bonus in fighting in deserts. Also includes desert survival training so heat doesn´t kill the troops.

Woodland/Forest training: Bonus in fighting in forests, gives a close combat bonus.

Jungle training: separate from woodland as jungles require specialist training. Bonuses to fighting in jungles.

Field fortification training: Troops can entrench better. Gives limited engineering training to troops, like constructing fortified positions and laying minefields.

Anti-Tank training: Boosts Hard attack values.

Infantry combat school: boosts infantry soft attack (against other infantry)

Advanced Infantry combat school: further bonus for soft attack

War Games: Each time a unit is taken through war games it gets experience. Each unit can go through this training several times.

Tank Gunnery school: Boosts the soft and hard attack values of your tanks

Tank Tactics school: Boosts both offensive and defensive values of your tanks. Tank commanders learn to use terrain as cover and other tricks here.

Tank Defensive school: Boosts defense values of your tanks. Training like digging Hull-down positions and preparing defensive firing positions and camouflage is learned here.

Recon stealth school: Boosts the stealth values of your recon units.

Pathfinder school: Boosts your recon units.

Ranger school: boosts recon units.

Artillery Gunnery school: boosts the attack values of your artillery

Artillery Engineering school: Boosts the entrenchment values of your arty, also improves defensive values.

Anti-Air Gunnery school: Improves attack values of your anti-air units

Fighter combat school (Top Gun or Red Flag): Boosts the attack and defense values of your fighters.

Fighter-Bomber Ground attack school: Boosts land attack values of your fighter-bombers

Helicopter Ground Attack school: Boosts attack values of your attack helicopters.

Helicopter Air-to-Air school: Boosts the air attack values of your helos.

Bomber ground attack school: Boosts the ground attack values of your strategic bombers

Navy surface warfare school: Boosts the offensive and defensive values of your surface ships

Navy ASW school: Boosts the Anti-Submarine values of your ships

Navy Submarine school: Boosts attack and defense values of your subs.

Navy Anti-air school: Boosts anti-air values of your ships.

Here are some training types that could be implemented.

As you can read above from my suggestions, training would be useful to bring back. Yeah! Bring back training!

Training would give the units something to do in peacetime and you could train your units in several areas, if you have the money that is.

Long been an advocate of bringing back specialized training, which enhances unit performance in a particular environment (which can be other than terrain...anti-air warfare, etc.)

Those areas contained in SR2010 would be a good start, but need not be the limit, as post above suggests.

But, am repeating myself...from comments made before SR-CW was released.

Can't believe I did not see this one before.... I'm sure The Goats were asking "Where's Draken?"

Please, bring training back...At least as it was on SR2010....

If you want to go back to 2010, there was even a place holder for leaders...
Training would be good, and erm.. train leaders.

And now that you have trained units and trained leaders, the next step is a proper unit hierarchy! :) [_]O [_]OT

Has anyone else noticed that unlike most other series, Supreme Ruler seems to have LOST more features than it has GAINED over the course of its sequels...

Just saying
Much Thanks

Training units would be a great thing! I've had my armies sitting in defensive positions for ages, just waiting on something to happen! Itd be great to have them able to do something.

That is outrageous!!

Just enable unit training!!

P.S. But first enable unit trading, you know, the selective one... :D

Let's be clear that the first statement is categorically false and has been disproved repeatedly. It wasn't even worth a response.

As for training in particular, that's been mentioned before, it was an SR2010 feature that did little to add to the game play and had little effect. To be worth redoing (there was NO carry over GUI from SR2010 to SR2020, everything had to be recoded) it would have needed a complete overhaul and might have cost us other features such as battlegroups or colonies or espionage or space race or 3D terrain or 3D models or one world map or naval invasions or AI improvements or speed improvements or Strategic Deployment or capital starts with relation data or on map notices or improved minister controls or whatever else I can't think of at this hour.

Oops, did I respond to the first? My bad...
