Please add more ICBM and silos

Post by Leafgreen »

SRU 2020 World, Russia. 505 tanks, 31 ICBM, 0 silos.
SRU 2020 World, USA. 273 tanks, 16 ICBM, 0 silos.

Just going off ballpark figures, 20k tanks for Russia (they never throw anything away) so 1/40th of r/l is represented.

ICBM missiles 312, so 1/10th of r/l is represented. Or 560, nobody will ever know the real number.
ICBM warheads 1032, so 1/33rd of r/l is represented but for the game 1 launch vehicle = 1 weapon.

0 silos, nobody can even launch an ICBM and the AI does not build them.

But since the AI will only launch in a retaliation for a nuclear strike against them and they are not actual units to be shown on the map or do spotting ranges and movement and supply checks which add work to the engine per tick, why not boost the number? If I begin the game and immediately declare war on a nuclear power I will have a balanced air/land/naval force to take them on with, I can be clever as a player and beat the AI. The threat of nuclear extermination is a great reason to seriously think twice about launching even a tactical artillery nuclear warhead vs a nuclear country though, even in SRU MAD should be a valid reason not to use nukes first.

Also I just did a test for fun as the US to see if I could completely eradicate all of Russia and China using the strategic launch system. All of them. Few cities are destroyed with a nuclear strike and they immediately start to repair those. I did cheats and launched thousands at them, mostly 100-300 minutemen/peacekeeepers per day. All military and industrial complexes I could reach were wiped out easily but few cities. I did wipe Mexico off the map by launching multiple waves a few game hours apart so that they could hit cities again before they had a day change to do any repairing.

A strategic nuclear launch targeting system improvement is also badly needed, I don't think anyone would complain if there was a popup saying 'Please wait, selecting targets' for even a minute if there was a logical selection of targets since this is a cliffhanger moment that probably won't come twice in a game. Naturally if you only have 10 ICBM you won't target cities, it will just make your enemy mad - but if you destroy 10 unit production facilities it will hurt them badly. After that add in industrial complexes and you can completely cripple an enemy - even a player - easily.

Thank you for your consideration of my proposal.

i see the ai does build nukes, but then it was in my private 2nd edition of my mars mod
dotted the planet with some silos and the ai spent every last kg of uranium to build nukes (custom silo launched).
Even by my own ministers, if i don't hit autobuild- missiles fast enough to off.
My first play tests with nukes on mars were bad enough, that since them i cry to have the white flash for each nuke removed...

The in-game counters for units are at least for land units around battalion strength levels, not single items like in those infamous comparisons.

In-game russian tank battalion is 31 units strong so that would translate to 15.655 tanks. US battalions are bigger (can't remember but something like 44) so that would translate to cca 12.000 tanks so they are actually not far off...
