With the next SRU update, we are looking to add some new modern units to the game. This would be anything post 2010 that has been recently introduced. Please let me know if there are any units you can think of that should be added to the game. I will need to know the name of the unit, the year of introduction and a URL to info about it.

Type 10 MBT (no definitely not the J10 already in game)
http://www.mod.go.jp/e/jdf/no33/column.html

Type 99 HSP
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_99_1 ... d_howitzer

Type 16 MCV
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_16_M ... at_Vehicle

Type 01 LMAT
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_01_LMAT

Akizuki class destroyer
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akizuki-c ... oyer_(2010)

Asahi class destroyer
http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... rials.html
Not the best source link but basically it is a 100 tonne heavier improved Akizuki. First vessel was launched last year.

27DDG (if you want to give it a proper name instead of the project name something like DDG-179 Nachi, Maya or Haguro would probably work)
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... 700ton.htm
Like Asahi finding decent references in english is not exactly the easiest but it is basically a 500 tonne heavier improved DDG-177 Atago. First vessel was laid down a few months ago and planned to enter service in 2020.

33DD (for non project name just find a world war 2 destroyer whose name is currently not used)
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... n/33dd.htm
(also mentioned under Asahi)

Izumo class helicopter destroyer
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izumo-cla ... _destroyer

P1 maritime patrol aircraft (there is a unit called MPA. I guess that might be intended to represent this aircraft?)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_P-1

C-2 transport plane (I can see a C-1 and C-3 but no C-2)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_C-2

I remember having to add the RQ-170 (link to wikipedia) for the modern world mod.. New drones not modeled as part of larger units in general should be on this list.. only reason the RQ-170 caught my eye was the Iran incident.. i'm sure there are a few more not in game. Didn't read whole thread so sorry if this topic was already brought up.

That being said I'll browse the modern world mod files and try and remember what all I had to add at the time and come back with a list if there are any not already included. I should have kept a list of what i added and why but 2020 hindsight.. lol

As I mentioned in a related post here ( viewtopic.php?f=72&t=25936 ) the tech tree is lacking a lot of generic units. A lot of nations besides Russia/USA will never get access to a lot of sci-fi equipment even if they have fully researched the technology, because their nation has no relevant designs.

Some nation tech trees even lack access to what I consider "necessary" units like modern long-range SAMs (meaning they have NO ground-based units capable of hitting high air targets), or nuclear ships (meaning they have to suffer ships getting stuck everywhere). So while you're adding units, please add at generic, world-wide available versions the stuff that USA/Russia gets.

It seems silly for smaller nations to research nuclear warheads, nuclear weapons tests, and the like if your nation can literally never develop nuclear weapons. Or why research UAVs if you can never manufacture them? Etc.

U know the answer....
Devs want add real new units..this is the focus in this thread.
It's true, maybe you can't get a great choise, but imho every nation can get every kind of units.

Beside that, there is more trouble with generic units than they are worth it. First, you need to prevent major nations from using then a nd then you got weird results.

For example, just see generic tanks. In the '60s you can see some small regions researching and mass producing MkI fast tanks when they are useless instead of just buying T-55s or Pattons.

It woul'd be far better if AI nations know how to share techs and designs and just stop building useless, obsolete things.

Last I checked, nuclear missiles, UAVs, and long-range SAMs are all real units. Unless your version of "modern" is from the perspective of someone living in 1914. :P So it's still relevant to the topic of modern units.

And no, every nation doesn't get every kind of unit. Just the other day I was testing out technologies with the Northern Europe tech region. Even after researching every technology, they had no access to nuclear missiles (not even dumb freefall nuclear bombs), nuclear carriers, or high air targeting SAM designs. And they're supposed to be one of the relatively more advanced minor tech regions. Who knows how much worse other tech groups have it.

While I wholeheartedly agree, I think AI management of assets is a separate issue deserving of its own thread. That has more to do with the AI being unable/unwilling to scrap obsolete units than it does with the unit designs themselves.
