different slider idea for next engine/game

Instead of having one slider that shows the total spending allowed for all three possible allocations of research (tech, effic, lev) and 3 more sliders to show and adjust breakdown of current settings (the three sliders ,one for each of, tech, effic, lev),why not drop the main slider and incorporate its ability into each individual (of the 3) sliders.

Currently you can set max in the main slider, but because of cap/s it doesnt really accurately show the money breakdown in conjunction with the 3,because the main slider only shows a max total allowed and not an individual max for each slider.

So , get rid of the main slider and make each of the 3 catagory sliders have a max setting themselves. This way the cap/s would be something we could see, and the max would stop the redirection of funds that occurs now often without our knwoledge or desire.

We've actually got some ideas like this already for the next engine, but there is some discussion on the exact way to do it. Spending will however be much more precise in the next version.

I actually like the current system of a master slider that controls overall funding, with seperate sliders to control where that money goes. I like being able to set a specific amount of money for all research spending, not having to jiggle around three seperate funds.

Now all we need to do is get a system where you know what time-to-research to expect for a specific setting of where the money goes ;)

Another "small" idea - may be too detailed, but:

Now we have Research Centers that work kind in "general research" - it´s the same if they develop nuclear warhead or better agriculture.
But what if we could have the option to swith focus of Research Center to some specific area - e.g. military, aerospace, civilian engineering.. (according to groups of possible research).

- This switch of course would take some time to take and some investment and be time limited (once per year?)
- Operating specialized Research Center would be more expensive than the "general" one

The benefits could be..

- Specialized research center gives boost in its area of research
- OTOH, it slows other areas of research

And when i think about this ..there are some more inplications that could be used, if e.g. more detailed Diplomatic and SecretOps system is used:
- Specialization of research centers remains hidden to other players. Finding out this information may be very helpful, even without knowing exact target of research
- Switching most of your research capacities to military may scare your neighbours..directly influencing belli rating..
