While i agree that japan, germany, and the USA are not yet 'fixed' (but also arent exactly 'broken' if played by a human) my current japan has gone a bit differently. Im exporting industrial goods to select people, im rubber independent, and only deficient in petrol at the moment (late 38') and i'm running both a trade and economic surplus with 2nd or third place in tech, a modern military, and I've never gone to war (so no damaged things to repair or captured resources.

The early game required i go in and take control of goods and raw materials from the minister and max out buying price/quantity for them in turns while maxing domestic prices and slightly raising taxes. by focusing on manufacturing more goods plants before military installations, then more power and resources before the next round of goods plants, I'm only buying when i want to stockpile ahead of rapid expansion. If i wasnt AAR-ing a special role-play scenario i'd have already DoW'd china and let my air force chip away at incoming mobile infantry and had a blast fighting a Chinese army that, for some reason, is 4X my on in size (add china to that list of not 'fixed' countries now that i think of it). So I can honestly say your frustrations lie with whatever economic decisions you made early in the game that dug you into a hole goods/petrol wise.

If you need practice with the economy, try taking a third party nation in sandbox (i learned 1936 by playing turkey) so that you are not forced into the war and have smaller domestic needs that are more forgiving of mistakes. turkey and iran both have plenty of resources, decent populations, and are third-party to the war unless you pick a side, maybe start there?

Whatever game play that has occurred, it has simply been DWARFED by the only two (repetitive) actions that you and everyone else noticed in the original post.

So I can honestly say your frustrations lie with whatever economic decisions you made early in the game that dug you into a hole goods/petrol wise.

I hit 1954 this morning, and am completely self sufficient in every aspect of the economy.

I also just mopped up Germany and England (now for those pesky colonies), and have already crushed Russia and China.


Cold War had the same bottlenecks by NAME, but overcoming those did not make up the entire game as it seems to do in 1936.
