Managing Units

#1 Post by Barbarossa66 » May 01 2019

I am having a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to manage my units. I'm fine with micro managing everything myself, but the supply trucks and ships. I tried setting all forces to initiative - none in the ministerial tab and then locking the minister out in global ROE and giving all of my supply ships and trucks seperate ROE that gives him control and sets their initiative to high. 60 of my supply trucks just went into reserves. I tried setting unit initiative to low and reset global ROE to give ministerial control to all units (thinking maybe the units have to call for supply) and now most of my support units are going into reserves (this is while I am at war as well). I then gave the previous ROE to all supply vehicles and still they do nothing while I have units out of supply.

It seems all the AI control does when I turn it on is move all of my units into reserve. I have nothing selected at all in the minister priorities. I cannot figure this out. If anyone could troubleshoot this with me or give me some guidance I would be really appreciative. I really enjoy the game, but this supply management is sucking a lot of the fun out of it.

Thank you

Just forget about supply and get what you need. If you micromanage why do you have supply problems in this game? Its just mather of waiting or click some supply trucks or planes to speed thing up. I dont see the problem. Well for player atleast.

If you leave 1 empty hex, then the supply train will slowly move, so just do that. Leave 1 unit of inf/tank/recon every 3 hexes.

I read somewhere that the AI was able to handle it, but I just can't get it to work. I really can't get the AI to do anything effectively as far as unit management. My biggest problems with the game seem to be supplying ships, managing planes(after assigning a mission I just lose track of them), and moving infantry. I hoped removing the supply truck/cargo ship micro management would help simplify things a bit.

I have been moving the supply trucks manually and its not that big of a deal, but I really dislike that most of the time I have to wait for a unit to be out of supply to remember to do so.

Edit: Not that I want things simple exactly. It is a great game, but it could really use some more tools to help manage things. I also like the supply system a lot in most ways.

It's constant work in progress, it might work in 1 patch in certain situations or area's and break in the next one. Right now AI seems a bit to eager to put troops in reserve, while at war, so yah it might be better next patch. But 1 you dont need ships, 2 supply come from cities, so theres no point going anywhere else, besides reinforcing your front line. Leave troops for 2 days in captured city and boom 100% supply. For ships, if you want to use them, again just complete mission, dont expect them to bomb enemy shores for 6 months without doing any actual invasions. If you move in formation you can use transport ships and stay on the ocean for months, not sure why you wanna do that, but you can. For planes i use my batlergoup assignments, for troops just let the enemy come to you and kill them in defensive positions so theres no opposition left when you advance. Every land unit killed, by plane or whatever is a path clooser to victory, so yeah no reason to have supply issues, and if you have its easy to fix, especially if you own the air and got some heli's.

For a good naval formation just put the transport ship in the middle surrounded by capital ships, surrounded by escort ships, surrounded by subs. As long you have descent ammount of ships you should be fine, against US just camp Cuba and use airforce there and the ships come in 1 by 1, once they stop sent in your merchant marines. Or just invade from Canada or something. For naval supply isnt really a problem, just go for ships with alot of range=alot of fuel capacity.
