Hey Beppo,

It's saying you need the latest game patch.

Might have been my fault with my Cold War.sav, although the game didn't crash for anyone else... :-)

If it's still on I'll join! I know two people who would also join.

I myself would like the play as India, Israel, Or Liberia in no particular order.

My friend who wants to join pretty much wants to play as West Germany but I'm sure he would play as Albania if he couldn't be West Germany

And my other friend would play as China or Japan.

I'm afraid you are too late. We did have a game on tonight, and after a few initial difficulties we got the game running. A few hours into the game, Beppo had to leave and me and Pete continued. Nothing big really happened, as we only got about ~9 months into the game, I think. The focus is still on building the economy.
I'd like to note though, that initially we experienced that the game speed was very slow. As Beppo left though, the game speed increased around 3x - 4x. I don't know if this is due to a network error, or hardware, but preferably if we are to continue this game, something which I would prefer, measures should be taken to ensure a greater game speed. Therefore, I suggest that people who join, or wish to join, share with us their hardware specs so that we can ensure that the game runs at decent speed.

I would love to join up. I can run the game beautifully. ASUS G73. I'm too lazy to check my specs right now lol

The G73 is a decent laptop. I myself considered buying it when it came out last winter. It is a dedicated gaming laptop.

Actually, Leon, it's not too late. You all can still join.
We just have to use our saved game as a new cache and then we can start a "new" game from where we left off. We could also adjust lobby options (I think we should have set volatility on High).

For anyone who wants to play, we're having another round tonight at 2000 (UTC+1). PM me your email and I'll send you the files. The upload limit here is 2 MB.

I am 90% sure the issue wasn't Beppo's computer, but his internet connection. There's a few things we can try.

Tips for best MP game speed (in order of importance):
1) Turn off all background programs, especially anything using the internet. Facebook and instant messaging, for example, compete with the game for bandwith. This causes a lot of the lag. Once a player lags too much (don't know what the threshold is) the game or game ranger disconnects you for everyone else's sake. I can not stress the huge impact on game speed this change has enough!

2) Only play over wirless if you have no other option. An ethernet direct hookup vastly improves things.

3) Set your satellite imagery resolution in Options\Graphics to low.

4) When you have nothing really to do, say just making diplo trades or stepping out of the room to pee, zoom out. The game runs faster if it doesn't have to show you a bunch of moving things.

wow, bro, you really went all out, shame I missed it.

May I suggest making this a weekly event? bi-weekly, w/e. I will try to setup a simple webpage where you can dl the files from or something like that.

Also there are some cleaning ups to do with the game -fixing unit type mistakes mainly. How should we tackle them? I was looking for an official update, but do not see it yet.

Technical note about gameplay:

You are right about internet connections. The best way to host/play a game is whomever has the fastest INTERNET speed hosts it (upload and download speeds). This obviously assumes that the PC itself can support the game. In the case of your last game, it was a combination of factors that lead to the slow speed (client's upload speed to host's pc, host's dl/upload etc.

Also, NEVER give out your ip while your firewall is down. This is a serious security risk as anyone can access your pc.

you are very right with all of your points, and for this one, you can also zoom IN all the way (to an empty area) and it does the same. This may actually be better because to zoom out you would go 'through' the layer of units around the world first, but I see how both could be used (out for diplo, in for econo, etc)
