mid air refueling

edit: has anyone noticed an interesting thing of aircraft and common speed. if you give it a destination from when its landed it will NOT hold to a common speed, but once airborne the planes will then fly at a common speed, thoughts?

ok so i am still having problems getting planes across the pacific, i try to escort but the planes make really jerky movements and are at an angle to each other wanting to go to hawaii, which i understand but i want them to be with the tanker. do i need to have one tanker for every fighter, that seems very bad to ahve to do, how can i tell my slower units (i am using banchees) to move and the stratotanker to stay with them?
