Amending Shipyards and Sea Ports/Sea Piers + River Transit

Post by geminif4ucorsair »

Some changes that should be modded - too late for Update 3 - into SR-CW are the following:

* * USSR.

* ADD:
- NIKOLAYEV-MARTI NAVAL FABRICATION (X999 Y170).
4 Naval Shipyard (building ways)

These are up river from the Odessa (Odesa) city location and in '49 belong to the USSR (not Ukraine), and need to be
circled as such. Location is the junction of the Bug and Ingul Rivers - 65-km from the mouth of the Bug River. Problem
in placement lies with SR's map, which may not allow transit along those rivers southward into the Black Sea...so locate
it adjacent Odessa if necessary [not yet done this mod yet...make the River a "wide" transit recommended].

These represent the Shipyard No. 444 and Shipyard 445 facilities. No. 444 built the aircraft carrier ADMIRAL KUZNETSOV (ex-Tbilisi) and UL'YANOVSK class aircraft carriers, were involved in cruiser and submarine building programs - the latter only ending in the late-50s.

ADD:
- KERCH NAVAL FABRICATION - (X1032 Y179) - location is within the actual city but will have to build Military facility adjacent.
2 Naval Shipyard (building ways)

This represents Shipyard No. 532.

RE-NAME:
- SEVERODVINSK - change from current Arkhangelsk (which is wrong, as Severodvinsk is the shipyard located 48-km across the delta from the city of Arkhangel'sk (which has its own small ship repair and build facility, which performs commercial ship repairs).

Severodvinsk is the same as Shipyard No. 402 and was originally known as "Molotovsk Shipyard" in 1938, when first established and named after V.M. Molotov, politico under Stalin. Pre-war was involved in "Stalingrad" class battleship construction. Built the first "November" class SSN and long series of other classes subsequently. Immediately after WW2, it was involved in Sverdlov and Skoryy-classes construction, and in '53 completed the first eight Zulu-class attack submarines.

ADD:
- DALZAVOD (Vadivostok)/ILIS NAVAL FABRICATION.
2 Naval Fabrication (building ways)

This represents the Shipyard No. 202 at Dalzavod and is part of the Vladivostok basis, which pre-war built destroyers and submarines (L, Shch and S classes) - post war all Pacific area subs were built inland.
Am including the ULIS Shipyard as well, also located within the basin, because it built Nanuchka II PGG, Pauk corvettes, Svetlak and other patrol and minesweeping classes during the Cold War.

Others might argue the Nakhodka facility should also be added but it was primarily a naval and commercial repair yard during the Cold War days.

* * VIETNAM (SRV):

ADD:
- Cam Pha (X1490 Y310) - Sea Pier

Cam Pha has a small port facility used for commercial docking and small naval patrol contingent. During the Vietnam War,
several Eastern European merchant ship docked there after Haiphong and Hanoi ports were mined by US aircraft.

Note that this also gives the SRV communist regime a port, which it does not have now as the game opens.

CHANGE:
- HAIPHONG (X1486 Y311) - Sea Port

Haiphong is a major seaport, the major entry point for nearly all commercial merchant marine traffic to northern Vietnam region. By the mid- to late-Vietnam War period, an average of 12 large merchant ships were docked pier side every day,
with as many as thirty more offshore awaiting berthing space.

-----------------

One of the problems still encountered is inadequate transit ability of ships from the Neva River (Leningrad) and Volga River
area, even as far eastward as the Krasnoye Sormovo (Shipyard No. 112) inland (320-km. east of Moscow).

Similar problems remain with the getting ships out of the Amur River basin, coming from Khabarovsk and Komsomol'sk (Shipyard No. 199) area, to the Tartar Strait (then venturing to the Sea of Ohotsk or southward to Vlad.

Whether the setting of SR-CW is High to Low for Naval units, they don't respond adequately thru these two major river arteries.

It's a programming thing...but some adjustments are needed.

The Naval bases at Gdansk (x917,y129) should be Gdynia and Svetlyy (x926,y129) is actualy Baltiysk. The German shipbuilding firm of Sichau was located a Stettin/Szczecin so it should have a seapier and the hex at x897,y135 shoud be changed to not river narrow since it's part of the Stettin Lagoon.
