MP games autosave

Post by number47 »

Not sure if this is working right, but after playing MP game for 4hours I found out that my 1 day autosave setting resulted in game creating few hundred autosaves (one for each day played obviously), almost 7GB of space on my hard drive :o

So...this can't be working as intended, right? HUH

Guess we need to turn it down before we play multiplayer.

3.5gb here and I use 1 day autosave as well.

Just the autosaves were 3gb, so i have cleared them out now.

The issue seams to be that it doesn't alternate between two autosaves but instead it creates new one every single time

This is correct.
But is this meant to happen or is it an error? HUH

Probably WAI. it did this in 2020 as well. The difference is everyone wasn't running around with 1 day autosaves on due to crashes.

Also if IIRC autosaves only saved to the host in 2020. I think thats the major difference here. Autosaves are saving to everyone.

That said.. if they reduce the need to have 1 day autosaves on then this problem will pretty much solve itself. Checking my settings in 2020 I see I went with 14 day autosaves. Every 2 weeks.

EDIT:

I do want to ADD one more thing, I have yet to see an autosave crash in multiplayer.. now whether this is due to a new savegame each time or the fact that we play on normal rather than Fastest I don't know, but it is striking that in all the times i've played multiplayer the crash issue hasn't popped up once.

The real issue with multi-player is desyncing. Any news on when that will be addressed?

Have you got save games that can reproduce sync issues? We've done more work in this area so it might have improved. Have not seen sync errors in our test games in a long time. Hard to fix it if you can't find it.

Yes, I can look for them and upload them both to my website if needed.

In my personal experience, desyncing has always happend when playing in Native LAN, while never using GR or Hamachi, don't know if this is helpful

Please zip and e-mail them. The site does not allow for uploads of that size.

This thread is a bit all over, please start a new one for the request to limit the number of MP autosave files that get created.
