What happened to the Suez Canal ?

Post by nick-bang »

What happened to the Suez Canal ? From Wikipedia "Under the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty of 1936, the United Kingdom insisted on retaining control over the canal. In 1951 Egypt repudiated the treaty, and in 1954 the U.K. agreed to remove its troops. Withdrawal was completed on 18 July 1956." Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized it in 1956, thus creating the Suez Crisis ... but here the egyptians own it in 1949 thus negating the cause of the war in 1956? Very strange

Because then everyone would need a treaty from the UK instead of Egypt. That sorta screws up things.

Its only like the Americans controlling the Panama Canal.
Supporting Nuclear Power in the UK.

Just because the Japanese happened to build one near multiple fault lines doesn't make them any more dangerous than they were before the Earthquake.

It would be cool if somebody could mod it in as a UK Colony. Like with the panama canal.

Nonsense - why would it screw anything up that you actually had to deal with the historically correct french-british consortium? That is irrational and illogical.

Another issue is that if you attempt to create a historical game as opposed to the Ahistorical SR 2020, then the most basic things should be in order !

Also the present faulty setup mitigates many of the tensions that led up to the 1956 war/Suez crisis.

So again:

WHY should this mistake not be corrected.

OBVIOUSLY its not a problem that USA has the Panama Canal Zone as that has been programmed. For that reason alone your argument makes no sense.

This.

It would make Natos efforts to commit globally easier... If anyone has ever moved 100,000+ men through the Panama canal they will know what I mean...

NATO was not really a viable warmachine until probably early/late sixties - but anyway then the game should reflect the REALITY and not some strange pseudoworld where major facts are omitted for the sake of ... I dont know really ???

At any rate then its just annoying and contrefactual ... and as I said if the Panama canal could be programmed then so can the Suez !

If you have a treaty from the UK, you can enter the isles too, and considering Britain is much bigger world player in the world, it's a bit strange.

A colony would be the best way of handling it.
