FOUND: The Reason for the Crashes.

Post by Balthagor »

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to post an update that we have discovered to specific causes for crashes;

1. Game version is not 7.0.71
2. Savegame being used was created prior to 7.0.71
3. Game was started with the "no units" setting.

There may be other causes (we're still investigating) but those two issues have clearly been identified.

The solution then is to start a fresh game with a full updated version + units. Please report if you find any crashes after that point.

Thanks!

thread updated. We've found out that the "no units" option also causes the game to crash. This will be fixed for the next update, till then start the game with units.

is it specifically the option.. or something to do with having no units. Reason I ask is i've been seeing alot of crashes in some of my caches while testing various changes with the OOB removed from caching. (when i get one of these i delete the save game.. delete the cache and recache and usually clears it up) didn't report it cause its just as likely i messed something up in a CSV or something everytime this happens.. lol

It's the option. It "changes" the starting conditions in code.

Yeah, that's what I get. Save created after update, just that option does it for me. Oddly enough, it only happens after I save and reload.

Ya i guess it was my patchwork .CSV.. redid it by hand since you said it was just the option and haven't had the problem since. (thats what happens when I cut too many corners :oops: )

Any plans for a v0.1a update or something for this or is the problem a bit more extensive?

game started after latest update 7.0.71, with no units, and game still crash.

With units no crashes, but game is sloooooow.

and I now just remembered, when started with no units, and was tradin designs for units, then numbers showed at certain designs saying you have xxxx units, but it was imposible because I stared with no units.

some info : yes, I have good PC - dualcore , 6gb ram, 512 mb graphic card. w7/64 bit.
While checking resource use, im around 80% usage. Where is problem ?

I actually didn't have the lag issue. I run AMD Phenom II X4 3.4 GHz, 8GB RAM, 1GB ATI Radeon 4890 and Win7 64-bit.

I did find solution to crashes on my PC.

So if you have problems with SR:CW on W7-64b then try this:

1. Set Compatibility Mode to 'WindowsXP SP3'
2. Then check 'Disable Visual Themes' (even if you using normal, box standard Win7 Aero)

Bingo. It worked for me. No crashes at all. And games which were crashing on certain dates working like a charm. Suddenly CW is a great game again! (even when it lags like hell)

And neither of (listed above) 3 possible issues causing crashes is true in my case.

I hope I won't jinx my PC now :D

::update::
I always run game in windowed mode @1680*1050. Running it at full screen with over 2000 pixels is completely unplayable. Interface is TINY. I can't hit anything or clicking 5 things at once. :lol:

Tried it and it didn't work for me. Interestingly enough, when I loaded up in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode with disabled visual themes my game finally came up in "windowed mode." Before whenever I would set that option it would only ever goto fullscreen. Anyhow once I set my resolution back to 1920x1080 in fullscreen mode, restarted the game, and loaded my game it crashed just like before. That is too bad.

Hi, haven't been around here for a while!

Just bought two copies of SRCW, one for me and one for my brother! Looks like a great game!

But: I've been getting crashes pretty often. I've got a save game which I started with update 1, with unit at start which always crashes in a few days. Should I upload the save game?
