[WIP] Revamped Brazil Armed Forces MOD

Post by VektorT »

Sup, guys.

In short, I'm starting my very own mod for vanilla Cold War called Revamped Brazil Armed Forces MOD. I'm doing this mainly to my very own use and pleasure but I will also share it when finished. Also any form of help is welcome, of course.

What I pretend to do is to add as much as possible historical units to Brazil that are not ingame. By historical units I mean vehicles, planes, ships and missiles that was in fact developed in Brazil between 1949-nowadays or was developed in another country exclusively for Brazil and is not used by no one else (some ships mainly). It will include prototypes that where never adopeted (just like Osorio tank that is already ingame), real variations of those equipments and planned variations that was never fully developed (like the AA and self-propelled artillery versions of the Osorio) and very specific redesigns of foreing equipements made by Brazil (like the X1A2 "Carcará" tank already ingame, who is a very modified version of the M3 Stuart light tank).

Units that Brazil bought from another country with minor variations will not be included. However their brazilian names may be used to replace a generic units that Brazil can produce in game just for immersion sake (mainly ships). At this point, I'm messing with infantry, but I pretend to. I also do not pretend to go sci-fi creating units out of my mind just to fill gaps, but I do pretend to overextend recent units variations for late game purposes (just like we have M1A3, M1A4 and M1A5 Abrams').

The mod will be done in several phases:
- Unit Inventory: Status: 100% complete. (suggestions are welcome, but I probably already have it).
- Choose 3D models: Status: current WIP. (at this very moment I'm trying to visualize SPCW 3D models in .x files, 'cause choosing in game or similar units is unsatisfying).
- Equivalence: Status: to be done. (set the equivalence between the brazilians units and the ones from the rest of the world for balance and tech level ingame).
- Add units to .UNIT: Status: to be done. (when the real work begins)
- Test, test, test, more test Status: faraway

It's my very first mod in Supreme Ruler and I'm not that experienced in that game so it's beign a journey of discovery and learning to me but I'm making good progress. I already added some new units to .UNITS pretty easily, but balancing everything and putting it in the tech tree (since the game gives you none) is the true nightmare.

For the planned units see the next post.

So, here is the planned units list and the age they was developed in real life. I'm posting it here now but it already need an update 'cause it not include some units variations (AA Osorio per example) , miss very recent variations (like the modernization of EE-9 Cascavel) and some units may change class.
*not all units will be added, of course, but the final ones are not chosen
**units already ingame may or may not be rebalanced
*** some names here are provisional and may be replaced with a more specific one (example: instead of "FNM Cutia AT", "FNM Cutia" plus the AT system name)

Still working in it but in a very slow pace...

Just to add: I do have the list for missiles, planes and ships, but they are on paper and very messy. Since I pretend to add the land forces first, I'm not even "dismessing" it now.
