Well the title says it all really, I want to be able to change which nations get which unit designs available to them...

However....

I realise that I could just edit each unit I want to change individually to include the new region code, but this is an incredibly time consuming task, especially if I want to change say an entire country's designs. So I was wondering if the moding community, in their infinite wisdom, have ever come across a way to make this a less gargantuan task. Or am I really stuck with a line by line change???

Just to clarify all I really want to do is say add all the USA unit designs to Israel for example. And I suppose I don't mind to much if Israel's designs are replaced whilst I am at it!

I'm not helping but I would like to seize oportunity to ask similar question. Is it possible to create a completly new region code for a country that currently exists in a group only? For example, is it possible to take one country from Estern Europe region code and create a new region code just for that country so that it would have it's own unit designes?

OP: wouldn't changing Israel region code to match the USA code solve your problem? I know there is a possibility that this is a completly idiotic suggestion 'cause I don't have any modding experience but it seems logical (which doesn't mean it truly is  ). If that turns out to be the case, please don't get upset with me

Correct. In the .CVP there is a line for each nation
israels is most likely like this
Code:
worldavail     I

Add the U.S Code behind israels code (or replace it depending on your preference) then recache.
Which would look like this
Code:
worldavail     IU

Would allow israel to research all american and israeli units.

(Not sure how many region codes the line will handle.. I know 2 works though. )

Just to add a bit more info.. there are a few unused characters that can be used if you wanted to say specify Units for a nation that doesn't have its own region code. There is a post about this buried somewhere in the SR2020 forums the only one I remember off the top of my head is @ Only remember that one because I use it as a Turkey only code in modern world  When I get around to using more I'll dig around for the post and Add the others here. (Think theres 4 total valid unused characters)

I was poking around some time before and I thought I saw some unused letters in region code section :D ...just wasn't sure , untill now, I could take that as a definitive "YES, you can make new region code for your country..."

EDIT: also, I'm glad I didn't turn to be a complete idiot with my suggestion,...at least for now

Yes the region codes support A-Z then a few ascii characters..* is already used to specify worldwide, but there is @ and 3 others I believe. Again if you take the time to find the post feel free to update this thread with them as a resource for everyone.

Has to be recached  (there is very little you can mod without recaching until your familiar with the system.. then there is very little you SHOULD mod without recaching  )

Load the scenario up in game so that it creates the files needed to play it and for distribution.

No Pelchat, what you need to do is recreate the games cache file so that the new changes are added into any new scenarios. This requires a little more than just starting a new scenario.

If you follow this link it will tell you how to do it for 2020 but the process is still the same, if you need any help explaning it just post here and I will put up a step by step walk through for you!
