Okay now that I got that little hissy fit out of the way.
We're gonna stick with mutual defenses til update 3. Its the lesser of the 2 evils. (AI wasting its units having merchant marines stand around is much better than hitting the destack bug and your game slowing to a crawl)
Now this means since I have mucked around alot in the source files its likely that until update 3 I won't add anything that requires me to recache. (I don't wanna spend days of time fixing it only to have to redo it all once update 3 arrives.)
However since I have been ravamping how the AI nations Prioritize placing its troops I will probably release 0.8e sometime in the next few days.
What do I mean by revamping how the AI nations prioritize placing its troops?
The AI will now start with some set Theatre settings. Meaning they will concentrate more on certain theatres. For example.. most EU countries aren't going to send troops off to war in asia if it means leaving them without a defense in europe.
In the same aspect.. allies/mutual defense partners will more actively place units in areas for defense, and regional allies are more likely than allies from half way across the world to commit troops to an a partners defense.(Of course Large nations have less qualms about sending large groups over seas)
Bad news is. this leads to alot of troop movement the first few weeks while allies try and figure out whos gonna defend where.
