May 1950 Summary

Ibrahim Salah was standing outside his tent at the Ma'abara when he heard the news that the US and Israel signed a Formal Alliance.A few months earlier he was injured when a bomb when off at the American Culture Center and Library in Baghdad,Iraq. A popular meeting place for Jewish teens and young adults living in and around Baghdad.
In April, a grenade was thrown at a cafe where Jews were celebrating Passover. The blast injured four people and later that night leaflets were thrown around telling Jews to leave Iraq. Ibrahim was one the first to get into the jammed lines of the emigration office and applied for permission to leave for Israel. A new aquaintence of his named Naeim walked up and they discussed the recent news. In the morning, they both would travelling to Dafna, a farming kibbutz not too far away.

DAR rose again this month despite the critics constant ramblings about the increasing debt that has accumulated the past three months. Adminsitration officials still promise that the debt will only be temporary and that it will not create a burden on future generations. Unemployment has stayed just above 3% even with most industries operating at reduced capacities.

Israel and the US signed a Formal Alliance agreement on the 6th (screenshot). The UN raised the US subsidy rating on the 24th. Relationships with the most of the world continue to improve but the USSR is gaining influence in almost all theatres.

The War in Vietnam inflicted massive casualties on both sides this month. Most of the battle are being fought in and around Hanoi and near Hai Phong. Hai Phong is the main point of entry for French and Allied reinforcements that continue to arrive in Vietnam albeit slowly. The Chinese military seemed to be determined to take the Airfields at Hai Phong and Hanoi. US air patrols and subs have monitered and tracked dozens of Chinese Merchant Marines vessels heading towards the area from Jinxi.

Plans for June

Continue to build Agriculture, Oil-Gas Fields and Infrastructure
Continue to upgrade Military
Maintain and try to improve relationships
Continue research on unit developement

June 1950 Summary

The Korean War started on June 25th 1950 about noon local time. North Korean military commanders had begun deploying forces in a routine war game exercises. The exercises were only planned to last a month and were rehersals for an actual invasion of South Korea. North Korean leader Kim ll-sung had received approval from China's leader Mao Zedong on a plan to unite Korea under his rule just a few days earlier. However, the North Koreans were not ready to actually invade South Korea. US forces were still in South Korea even though a prior US-Soviet agreement after WWII called for the removal US forces by 1949. North Korea also hadnt stockpiled ammunition and other supplies they would need for the invasion.
Its doubtful that historian will ever write the real truth about how the Korean War started that day. Unknown to most , a special forces unit from North Korea was conducting a recon mission along the 38th parallel and had unknowingly crossed over the border. A Canadian Infantry unit was conducting patrols north of P'aju and spotted what they thought was the first sign of the invasion. The North Koreans , thinking they were still in North Korea engaged the Canadians who reported back to Soul Military Base that the North Koreans had crossed the border and engaged them with direct fire. South Korea had received intel months before that a North Korean invasion was planned and interpret the incursion the Canadians reported as the start of that invasion. For months they had secretly prepared for war by buying weapons, vehicles and supplies and keeping them in full readiness but under the illusion that they were under repairs. When the report from the Canadians came, military commanders gave the orders to start the counter attack operation codenamed Chuseok.

The USA is now $70B in debt. DAR continue to improve this month but only slightly. Administration officials are still praising "Project Legacy" and the incouraging long-term effects it will produce. Critics however, say the nation will be bankrupted by the end of year. Some of the numbers they show has some in the Hundane Administration worried.

Production of raw materials continue to increase but the Goods commodity czars continue to keep Goods production far below its capabilities.

The War in Vietnam continues but neither side seems to be gaining the upper hand. An alliance was announced on the 10th with North Vietnam and North Korea. War Game exercises in early June by North Korea was missinterpreted by North Vietnam as preparation to enter the war in Vietnam against France and its allies. Chinese and French units continue the bloody fight for Hanoi. France has been able to send reinforcement to Hanoi and China is on the verge of retaking the town.

On the 25th, North Korea invaded South Korea. A swift and decisive counter-attack by South Korea has resulted in over 35 thousand casualties combined in just 6 days. South Korea captured the Military Base at Koksan-Up on the 30th and it looks as the North Koreans are in general retreat to Pyongyang. Kaesong is expected to fall in a few days. The USA condemned the actions of North Korea but have decided not to declare war. Over 200 US soldiers died in the 1st few days of the war. The recent success of the South Korean counter-attack offensive has persuaded President Hundane not to commit more troops to the region. Those already in the region would be used to defend cities and bases South of the 38th Parallel.

Plans for July
Monitor the Vietnam and Korean wars.
Continue to upgrade military
Continue to build Agriculture, Oil-Gas Field facilities and Infrastructure
Continue to research military units

July 1950 Summary

Retired General George Patton was sitting in his wheelchair across from President Hundane in the Oval Office when news that North Korea surrendered to the South Koreans was given to the President. Both smiled at each other and General Patton slammed his fist on the desk "They kicked some commie ass, Mr. President we need to give them more tanks so they can keep going to Beijing and all the way to Moscow."
President Hundane looked at the old General. Up until ten months ago, most everyone including him had thought he had passed away from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in 1945. President Hundane remembers the day the General came to him and hand delivered an envelope with pictures and other papers. The result was the end of Trumans Presidency and it also forced the retirement of many military leaders including the famous General Dwight D. Eisenhower under the guise of military cutbacks. The cover story for the Generals absence was he rather be dead to the world then to have anyone see him as wounded and permanently disabled. Unknown to most, the General had survived an assassination. Not once but twice. When Project Legacy was announced, The President appointed the retired General as czar of military goods, effectively making him Americas number one arms dealer. The President replied, "We dont need to give China a reason to align with the Soviets. We need to drive a wedge between them."

DAR continues to rise and so does the debt. Construction projects funded by Project Legacy continue and still more are planned. Its estimated the US will be over $1 trillion in debt by the time they are completed.

Commodity production is rising slightly due to increasing infrastructure, completed projects and worker happiness. Syracuse and Birmingham are reporting 100% supply.

Research continues to be focused on developing units. Transport aircraft designs are being sold to some regions to help pay for some development.

The military continues to be upgraded and increased in airpower. New destroyers capable of launching missiles entered service earlier this month and are currently conducting patrols off the East and West coasts in preparation for missions overseas.

The War in Korea ended this month when the North Korean military leaders surrendered at Hungnam. They were executed a few days later along with several North Korean government leaders including Kim ll-sung. The North Koreans were totally annihilated by the South Korean counter-attack and offensive. The North Koreans were ill prepared to fight a war at the time it started but despite the low levels of supplies and ammunition they inflicted over 57k casualties on the South Korean forces. North Korean casualties were last reported to be over 50k.

The War in Vietnam continues with ever increasing casualties on both sides. Italian armored units have been seen fighting on and around the rail lines east of Hanoi. Hanoi continues to be a where most of the fighting takes place as Chinese forces attempt secure the avenue of approach south of Hai Phong. Chinese forces have pentatrated as far south as Thanh Hoa but was pushed back. NV Guerillas still control the jungle areas east of Thanh Hoa. British units hold a thin line in the jungles of Laos but fighting there has been sporadic. North Vietnam signed a Formal Alliance with Mongolia on July 3rd.

Plans for August

Continue building infrastructure, agriculture and oil-gas field facilities.
Continue to develop units
Continue to moniter the Vietnam area
Continue to upgrade military

Very nice, thanks!

Question: Why limited US involvement in Korea? Role playing or personal strategy (e.g., keep the lid on global tensions)?

USA AAR

August 1950 Summary

President Hundane read the memo regarding the UN announcement of the Alliance between East Germany and North Vietnam. Western European Intel Agencies as well as US Intel was taken by surprise when East Germany and North Vietnam announced a Formal Alliance this month. Intel assets mostly concentrating on Soviet and Chinese activities mistook a low level delegation of North Vietnamese diplomats as a routine trade negotiation. French diplomats immediately requested US intel on East German military assets. The US complied under NATO Treaty obligations and continues to update the French on the daily recon patrol the US conducts over East Germany. No significant military moves have been made by the East Germans at this time. Merchant Marine vessels from the USSR are heading to Hai Phong. The President looked to his adivisors, "Is this some sort of message or signal for us, the Chinese and the Soviets? Mongolia......now East Germany......Is North Vietnam becoming the glue that brings China and the Soviet Union into an Alliance ?

The President and advisors discussed different scenarios. If they entered the war to help the French, the Chinese and Soviets might just form an alliance. If the US doesnt help the French, they may form an alliance anyways and the US would lose a potential ally in South Vietnam and Laos and possible put Thailand, Taiwan, Phillipines as the rest of the area at risk to communist takeover.

DAR rose for the 5th straight month. Project Legacy seems to be starting to have a positive effect but critics still point out the massive debt that the US has accumulated which went over the $1 Trillion mark this month. Supporters of the program point out that the US now exports Petrol. Critics counter that production is below capacity........blah blah blah it never ends. Administration officials are still quite concerned however, a suitable foundation has been laid but its not up to the standard that the Hundane Adminstration would like it to be yet. If funding dries up now, the existing foundation will hold but building upon it will be very slow.

Cabinet Minister Holly Burton has been successful this month is convincing Andorra to lean towards the US way of thinking. She has been working closely with commodity czars and researchers in helping provide the Andorrans with essential raw materials and Aid as well as selling them Medical Technologies. She has also been working diligently in other areas of the world most notably, Nepal, Bhutan, Israel, and Central and South America.

Finance Minister Harry Weslie has reported a big gain in the High Income tax bracket for the month of August from July and a slight gain in corporate taxes. A strong indicator that the Project Legacy is having positive effects.

Coal czar Alfred Miner bought several years worth of coal off the World Market and stockpiled it close to Power facilities. He also worked with State minister Holly Burton in selling Coal to Allies and other regions in the hopes of improving relations.

Research continues to be focused on development of units. Slow progress is being made and nothing new is expected for a month or two. Developement was completed this month on a older model artillery that will be produced for resale to other regions, the design will be declassified in 4 years and sold to other regions.

Military continues to upgrade and is currently upgrading its armor capabilities. New M26 Pershings will be replacing the M4A3E8 Sherman next month with another batch following a month or two later. The airforce is currently building carrier capable interceptor aircraft for deployment on carriers.

War in Vietnam took a turn for the worse as South Vietnam and France as they lost the vital Airfield and Seapier at Hai Phong this month to Chinese backed North Vietnames forces. North Vietnam now controls Vinh and the avenues of approach south and west for 175km. A monsoon hit Da Nang and Hue in late August and has mired the French Allied units on the muddy roads slowling their supplies and movements. A recent treaty between South Korea and France has resulted in South Korea sending its fresh battle hardened veterans to South Vietnam. Merchant Marine vessels from the USSR are also being spotted moving towards the newly aquired North Vietnames seapier at Hai Phong. North Vietnam also signed a Formal Alliance Treaty with East Germany this month but so far no activity from the East Germans have been spotted.

Plans for September

Continue to build relations with other regions
Continue to build infrastructure, Agriculture facilities and other Project Legacy construction projects.
Continue to focus research on unit development
Continue to monitor the Vietnam War
