How tough is the Chinese Military as of 1951?

Hey guys,

So I'm now on my second real playthrough (I'm playing as America) and I've been writing it all down to turn into an AAR if all goes well. However, I just have a quick question. Several months ago I won the war in Korea and turned what remained of North Korea into a colony. However, almost immediately afterwards, they allied with China. (Since when could colonies make alliances??) So, I'm now in a situation with Chinese troops in Korea and a very angry government behind those troops. I've seen that they're moving paratroopers in, so I kinda got VERY worried.

The Chinese presence is still fairly light, but it's still big enough to suggest that liberating the country is definitely an option for them. As such, I've now got about 37,000 troops deployed in Korea. (This is opposed to the 15,000 that were there at the beginning of the Korean war, so perhaps you can now begin to appreciate my abject terror.) However, I am unsure about how big the Chinese military actually is. Hypothetically, if they were to declare war and employ the full might of their army, would I be able to hold Korea with this sized force?

More Info:

-The army component is comprised mostly of motorized infantry, supported by about 10 sherman tank divisions, a few standard infantry units for defense and a very small amount of artillery. I also have about 10 paratrooper units for deep strike missions.

-As far as the air force goes, I have a mix of Banshee interceptors and shooting star tactical bombers stationed in and off the coast of Korea--around 8-10 of each. I also have 10 strategic bombers, 8 of them B-36 Peacemakers, stationed in Japan.

-I don't have much in the area at all in the way of naval force, apart from the carriers and their escorts.

Well they had just been through a civil war and a world war, so I'm guessing the Chinese would still be strong but abit tired.....

Yeah, I know how they'd be historically, but I know better than to rely on historical evidence when playing a game, especially something as general as "they'd be strong but tired." Besides, I know that the US military could kick the Chinese military's butt at this time, my question is however how much of it needs to be deployed to do so, and whether my current deployments are likely to be enough.

Yeah, fair enough....I would send everything because you could easily outnumber and overwhelm them with your entire force. Besides, their are going to have soviet troops there too so....anything you can send!

Wait, the Soviets are gonna fight with them? So this'll basically be WWIII?

Well the sino-soviet split hasn't happened yet so they are allies, so soviet support for them is a huge possibility. Even if they don't declare war on you, they will still have troops in China to help the Chinese....

Ok, thanks a ton! I just wasn't sure cause the Soviets didn't provide any help in North Korea. I can't leave America undefended but I'll do some re-positioning.

I see...if you want to defend the American homeland itself, rather than leaving units behind to defend, you could just garrison everything so if there is an invasion, the gerrisons will be a pain and they won't get far....oh, and use you navy to help defend because they wouldn't get past the large American navy......

Ok, fair point. However, I've got no idea how to create Garrisons. How do I do that, exactly?

Well click on a settlement or facility, it's name (or coordinates) will be at the top. Click on that and on the right, there are options to add or remove garrisons.....you can have a maximum of 7...they are useful for defence

Okay. Is there a particular pool of reserve soldiers I can draw from? So for example if I have 10 garrison units altogether and I put 7 in one city I only have three for everyone else?

You draw them from your military personnel pool, the same as with your other units.
