To be continued...
Since there's an almost polished game engine with update 3.. or at least I expect it to get close to polished..
We have Cold War
We have 2010
We have 2020
So, for a Supreme Ruler - Fall of Soviet Union.. (1985 - 2000)
add all the units and specifics of that era...
And then combined all 4 for the time frame 1949 - 2020
Supreme Ruler - Post WWII
once you have that time frame in place, bring out expansions:
WWII
WWI
Napoleon
etc..
and each time, polish and update the game engine a little bit more..
AND, add more options to nation building (industries, etc ) and how the
AI handles his nation building..
Could we expect such a development of the Supreme Ruler series in future?

We have said previously that there is intention of a WWII era Supreme Ruler but that anything earlier is unlikely to be an appropriate fit for this game engine. You'll have to wait for some announcements.

WWII, the most overdone era for games.Balthagor wrote:We have said previously that there is intention of a WWII era Supreme Ruler but that anything earlier is unlikely to be an appropriate fit for this game engine. You'll have to wait for some announcements.

I think WWI has been missed by most game developers from board games to computers. You would start of with basic infantry, artillery, horse cavalry, ovservation aircraft, zeppelins and develope more advanced units such as motorized infantry, tanks, ADA and fighter and bomber aircraft. We had the development of aircraft carriers more modern submarines and ASW naval units.

Ww2 era would be awesome, start in like the very early thirties, giving a bit of time for the player to change the country they play before the war starts, that'd be awesome

Re: To be continued...
If this was something to happen, I really would suggest a huge overhaul of the diplomacy arena. We all Know Hitler and his ways he got to power (google Ernst Rohm, ect). This era was all about diplomacy. The Sr engine would need a massive overhaul for the diplomacy part of anything in this timescale.
This was a time of diplomatic lies and fake alliances!

Re: To be continued...
1929 would be pretty good, but may make the events that take place to hard to script due to too many changes? I'm not sure about this, I'm sure it could be done by date but if countries get ran over randomly before the date it may be make none of the events happen, like I said, someone else would have to clarify that.
As for aliances we've all been clamoring for updated diplomacy for awhile, so that would probably be one of the key points of the next SR that and hopefully controlling units could be improved somehow, kinda hard to control thousands of tanks at once lol

@Balthagor
For the sake of the discussion, what starting date do you think would be best for a SR game on ww2?

WW2 ????????????????????
Both Avalon Hill and GDW produced the best WW2 games ever. I think trying to top them would be folly.
I'd just like to see SRCW finally completed to the stage that everything works as originally intended. Call me pessimistic but I suspect Upgrade 3 will not be the final patch.
WW2 can wait.

As we do some day plan to go down this road, I can't say if we've even chosen a date. Sorry, company secrets.MK4 wrote:@Balthagor

lol
Ok, fine. I was hoping you can declare a personal preference as opposed to what the company will do if a ww2 game were to be done. Personally I`d like to have the option to start way in advance, in 1930. That would give the player time to take one of the minor/regional powers, like Poland or Romania for example and attempt to be ready for 1939/1940. Of course, something like this would probably be very hard to balance so that the player has just enough time to be prepared, but not too much so that he can`t influence other nations greatly so that things start to play historically(history wise at least) by 1939 instead of having a completely different world. Ideally, it should be possible to prepare for war as good as it would have been feasible historically if the country knew war was coming, but not to transform Poland into the British Empire by 1939. I don`t know if this is possible game wise without huge amounts of work.
