Yugoslavia; not a big player on a world stage, all the resourses you might need (oil, uranium), decent population (20M), good technology start....and not to big to get you overwhelmed

Re: Favorite countries to play as??
I prefer Greece because of the position( balkans except yugoslavia are a piece of cake to takeover and actually is in the middle of all serious fun) and the USA.USSR is just unplayable due to the lack of supply and productivity and the vast territory.Dont mention borders with European NATO and China.
On the other hand USA is a so easy.Already mass military, good supply and productivity and resources and the best is Canada+Central and South America -No resistance- at all countries.

Also I played with the neighbours Turkey for a game or two but USSR is a pain in the a*s and always ended up in war and massive invasion from them...

my favourites are New Zealand. Jus to see what i can get or Cuba.
tried South Africa for a bit but got too bored, they make too much and are surronded by colonies of big countires that i dont really want to war with.

Re: Favorite countries to play as??
I really enjoy India. You have to give it some time but after a good five years and buying production licenses you can not only easily become self sufficient but also field a one million man plus army. Pretty much making SE Asia a walk in the park. Cuba is always fun once you get ICBMs. Israel is challenging but rewarding once you get to the '60s. North Korea is awesome but challenging if you follow actual historical timeline of when to attack. I've also had a lot of fun as East Germany lately, not sure why. But it was enjoyable taking over all of eastern Europe and Russia. However if I just want a chill game I'll play as Italy, build up nukes, and watch the world explode.

Yeah, nations with large and very small populations are much harder regardless of how many resources you have.
