ROK evacuate Hainan 23 April. Though Communists did not establish control until 1 May, a week later.

Might find something more.

And don't forget that Tibet was aswell still alive in 1949. Most links about Hainan, only mentions that there where a takeover by PRC of Hainan from ROK.

After taking a look at the regions list I've noticed that Macau, Goa, Daman and Diu, which where Portuguese colonies at the time, aren't listed. Is the list not updated or are these colonies considered already independent from Portugal?
(Macau was only handed over to China in 1999 and I think that the Indian territories remained in the Empire until 1961)

Macau is too small (like Monaco) and therefore not part of the game.

Gao was omitted, but I've got a note about that. We might add it in an update. We'll see how much of an impact it has once all our users are playing.

The other two I'm not familiar with but would guess they are too small. Feel free to provide some links...

Goa is definitely the biggest, the other are even less significant than Macau
Anyway here are some small articles about Daman and Diu

Portugal in 1949 had several colonies, which were: Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor, Macau, Diu, Damao and Goa. And the Indian colonies played an importante role in the Colonial War, because they set the example to the african colonies, after being taken by Indian Union.

Macau, Diu and Damao are just too small for our scale. You have my response for Goa. The rest are in as Colonies IIRC, but feel free to check the list.

Okinawa isn't Japan

Post by stuguy909 »

Okinawa was not part of Japan from 1945 until the Reversion treaty was ratified on November 24, 1971. Okinawa was a US protectorate, liberated from Japanese occupation. After World War 2, the islands were occupied by the United States and run by a U.S. military government even after the end of the occupation of Japan as a whole in 1952. The United States dollar was the official currency used, and cars drove on the right, American-style, as opposed to on the left as in Japan. The islands switched to driving on the left in 1978, six years after they were returned to Japanese control. The U.S. used their time as occupiers to build large army, air force, navy, and marine bases on Okinawa, which many are still located there today.

I served on Kadena AFB as an airman and married an Okinawan. The US military presence here keeps a ever watchful eye on North Korea and China, and has since the end of the 2nd World War.

The true relationship of Japan is too nuanced for the game engine. Treating it as a region works best for gameplay.

Could be a colony of the USA until 1971 which then it converts to Japanese control.

If its possible in the game for a colony to gain "independence" and join an exsisting region.

If not i'll keep quiet 8)

Just because the Japanese happened to build one near multiple fault lines doesn't make them any more dangerous than they were before the Earthquake.

What about Yugoslavia? It could have collapsed much earlier than it did, also in real it collapsed in 1991 and 1992, just like USSR so why aren't there like Bosnia,Serbia,Montenegro (as colonies?) in regions list. It would be also very useful to use in mods. And there ARE colonies like Ukraine, Belarus and stuff?

PS: There's even Kaliningrad which still isn't a independent nation today.

You can't make the parts of Yugoslavia "colonies", there is no "parent" region to assign them too.

All the parts of Yugoslavia where marked with a flag we call "keep region" meaning they retain their loyalty. What would be done is you target Yugoslavia to fund insurgencies and support the opposition. Over time you might cause Serb or Croat rebels to spawn or the region might collapse into its separate parts.

Kaliningrad is set as a colony so could be targeted.

Okinawa was conquered by Satsuma around 1650 and occupied until the late 1800's when the Emperor integrated all the "hans", or captured territories, under the Empire into one union. Okinawa's king at that time protested China for military support, but the Chinese deferred to the Americans. President Andrew Jackson decided that Japan's claim over Okinawa was more militarily sound, and thus, property of Japan. The Okinawans to this day want independence. Though, many of the residents here are either foreign military, or Japanese who moved down here because they like the tropical scenery. A more modern concern will be China's claim that Okinawa is China. It isn't enough that the Chinese communist government wants to include Taiwan, they want all the islands around it as well. Prior to 1650, Okinawa was a trade partner with China, however, the dynasties had always considered Okinawa a tributary of China, like a small river of the main body, but not the river...

Still an interesting bit of history, and more importantly, Okinawa being the key US military presence in the region that keeps everyone in check. Without Okinawa, North Korea and South Korea would be fighting, and China would be invading Taiwan. Which is why I think Okinawa should be US territory.

No idea how to make Biafra (no region code avaliable) but Katanga can be modded in.

I can't figure out the code for N. Congo to mod in a Congolese Civil War though.
