Scenario question

Post by aegisx »

This may have been explained somewhere, but how exactly does the scenario system work? Say I take Michigan and win that scenario. What defines a win, total conquest? Is an option given to move on to the next larger scenario? Does that scenario reflect what happened in previous or is it like starting over, but you control all the regions in the sub-region?

What you're actually talking about is refered to as a campaign. We offer 3 kinds of single player;

Mission; One map with a set goal that you're told at the outset. Things like "kill enemy leader" or "Do X by such and such a date".

Scenario; You can pick your map, victory conditions, rules and style of play. Completely open play of a given map.

Campaign; Starting from a map that is a valid campaign start (things like France or US Michigan) you complete the map according to the storyline given and if successful move onto the next map carrying many elements forward (such as units, technologies and money). Final progression of the campaign is the world map where everything is owned by one of 9 players. (N. America, S. America, Europe, Mid East, Russia, Africa, Oceania, South Asia, India-Pakistan).

How many valid starting positions are there for the campaign (is there a list)?

There is not a list but it is over 200. Some maps have only two, such as north and south Korea, others like the US North West have 12. Any of those become valid starting regions. The Europe map would not since it is the next one up for maps like France and Germany.

If you check Red's Supreme Wiki, you'll find some of them listed. Don't have the URL handy... Red?

Unless I'm mistaken, there are 220 starting regions for campaign play... and 285 for scenario play (this includes maps that are not starting level maps in campaign play).

Some regions will be quite difficult to start from but if it was all easy it would be no fun.

To mention once again for anyone who has missed this... In scenario play (choose any map and play a game) you can group regions. For example, the France map comes split into 5 players. France is cut into 2 regions, Spain, 2 regions and Portugal. If you want to play as France vs Spain and Portugal it can be grouped to play this way. Some grouping that we thought of will be part of the game, and other ones can be created by the player by modifying some files.

Are you sure that South Asia and India-Pakistan are both on the list? I mean, South Asia is widely considered to be the India-pakistan region. Did you mean to say East Asia?

We refer to the China area as South Asia since Thailand is the southern most point. India-Pakistan is more Central Asia...

It was even more confusing when we called it "Asia South". I wondered what we were talking about all the time... :o
