This game is absolutely amazing.

Post by Elemenofi »

So basically, I was a student at my countries Naval Academy, Morgan served in a Paladin self propelled artillery and as machine gunner in a Humvee at Irak, Anderson is a mysterious nordic man eager for realistic games.

All three of us have been playing this game in multiplayer mode for about four or five days, usually 3+ hours sessions.

Multiplayer is 100% -playable-.

I am from Argentina, Anderson is from Norway and Morgan is from Texas. I didnt do the math but I'd guess it is like 1000000000000000000 kilometers distance between all of us. We still dont get out of sync and all our savegames work.

Only issue we had was that Morgan has to restart his PC before hosting, if not we cant join, -weird-.

All of those here who are really mad at this game because of the weak AI and the slow pass of time, STOP PLAYING SINGLE PLAYER. START PLAYING MULTIPLAYER, in exchange, THIS MARVELOUS GAME will give you:

-Bombers actually bombing you.
-Interceptors swarming in to -intercept- those bombers.
-Thorough strategical planing and execution.
-Helicopters spotting your subs.
-Harriers launching off Queen Elizabeth's and pouring missile rains over your fleet.
-Strategic paratrooper landings.
-Armored infantry supported by Tanks storming your fronts together with 155mm howizters saying Hi, how are you?.
-Huge diplomatical tensions. (We roleplay through chat, its funny)
-NO MORE ENGINEERS ARMIES
-NO MORE AMPHIBIOUS INVATIONS LACKING PROPER ESCORTS
-NO MORE CARRIERS PARKED AT PORTS
-Spies wrecking your military production
.... and so on.

You know, if I'd saw information on the box "this game is only for multiplayer" I won't buy it and will be happy. But you see, when I buy a game which is said to work both in single player and multiplayer mode, I expect it IS playable for single player. So I won't say the game is good and the terrible, completely inept AI isn't a problem, because I can play multiplayer.

You have a good point Zakotem. I understand.

Still the gaming experience in multiplayer mode in this game surpasses many other strategic simulations.

That applies to almost every game thow. And while I agree that MP is going to have more action. And I spose if you could rally a few friends and dedicate 2 or 4 nights a week of 3 or 4 hour blocks. Then Yea it would defenatly be an awsome game. But for me I like the single player. Since I like to play in larger blocks of time. And really get into each individual game playing for long periods of time.

The game itself is acualy geting to a pretty decent point in the reguards to features. And probly need to switch gears from feature implentation to AI abilities implementation.

Ruges, I didnt say we finish that game of 4 hours sessions. We are still playing it, with long term objectives both in research, economy, building and militarily. We are not relinquishing the good things about single player. It is not fun to play single player anymore, in my case, I'd rather spend less time playing computer games, but when I play, MP is by far the best QUALITY time I can invest on SR2020 GC.

There is no limit to the timespan dedicated to a MP game. You can even add players in future sessions.

It is amazing, I repeat.

yea I figured you did not, and thats why I said that playing a few hours a night a few nights a week would be cool if that is somthing you could get setup. And that is somthing that you do. Which is cool.

The MP game we are currently playing is by fare the most enjoyable game i have yet played in SR, and in any other RTS for a long long time. Im playing as United Kingdom, Elemenofi is playing Argentina, and the last guy is playing as Bolivia. we picked our own countries, and didn't really agree on much before starting, beside the rules of no tech or unit design trading with anyone, AI or Player. the Current date is late November 2021 I think, so close to 2 years have passed.
- Bolivia has done a great job of building up, The Bolivian Government have used their geographical local to effectively set up a defensive line using their mountains, Dense forest and Rivers, and any invasion on Bolivia would have to cross dense forested areas with absolutely no supplies, amphibious attackes have to be made to cross rivers, tanks and mechanized Infantry would be fighting the bad terms constantly pounded by Artillery, i don't wanna be fighting Bolivia in Bolivia in this game :o
- Argentina had a rough start, An Argentinean spy was spotted in London, resulting in a early conflict between the two nations, the following days a series of naval engagements led to th sinking of one British Nuclear submarine of the Vanguard class, several Argentinean submarines and a surface vessel was badly damaged. Peace followed since either nation had the preparations for a full scale war. The British learned from their mistakes, reinforcing the naval present at their Falkland base with 1 carrier group, 2 surface groups and 8 submarines. In addition, extensive ASW capabilities.
A mere month after, the second war of the Falklands broke out, this time peace wouldn't follow as quickly as last time.

Date: August 8th, 2020, Location: South West Atlantic Ocean 43*27'49.77 South 59*09'06.40 West

12 hours into the 2nd war of the Falklands, four submarines of her majesty's Navy spot's a large group of Argentinean naval vessels moving in direction south from their base outside Buenos Aires. Although the precise number is hard to tell, the best estimate says 10-15 surface ships and 5-10 submarines, by fare the bulk of the Argentinean navy.
Most of the Surface ships where Frigates, and that represented an imminent treat to my submarines, but at this point information was more important then the lives of men on board those Subs, where there any transport ships among them?
The answer turned out to be no. Their mission was then clear, they where looking for my carriers in the region. My Submarines were spotted and the following engagement lead to the sinking of two Submarines, although they took 2 frigates and 1 subs with them to the deep. At this point, the wind of war was with me, i knew the location of their fleet. The carrier group moved south west of the island while a surface group moved north East, hoping for a classic double flanking maneuver. Harriers were launched from both my carriers potting their fleet about 400 KM North west of Stanley. Sea Eagle Anti-ship missiles was fired and the planes returned to base without ever getting within the AA range of their ships. seeing the direction from which the planes came, the Argentineans knew where my carriers where sailing, and went right for them, I moved my carriers in the opposite direction, so that the Islands them self would at all time be in between us. It was now like shooting fish in a bowl, harriers would launch from Stanley, load with missiles, fly to striking distance and fire and go back for another reload. the carriers where kept fare out of reach at all time, all of the Argentinian ships were sunk within a day, at that point, the remaining submarines they had in the region tried a brave but foolish act, and made a last jump at my carriers, that at this point the carriers had moved in closer in order to move effectively use the Merlin ASW helicopters not yet used in the war. the remaining subs where sunk by the surface fleet moving in from the back and helicopters.
The grim math: 2 UK subs to 19 ships and Submarines from Argentina.
A following peace treaty were made very much on my terms, with British one sided line of sight and transit treaty.

This is anyway my perspective of our first proper naval engagement, it was fun, especially for me, but it would be good to get the perspective of the other side !!!

Your description is quite right.

I would only add the fact that the Argentine Naval Command lost all hopes of defeating the Royal Navy when their only Orion P3 Naval Recon Plane was shot down at an unknown location. My strategy was to spot and engage lonely vessels far from large surface or carrier formations. So I had 2 options without reconaissance, either use my navy as a coastal defence force, which I knew you wouldnt try to land in. Or just keep my ships in reserve waiting for the time I could develop a recon plane (aka 100 years).

After this disastrous naval engagement against a much larger, air capable and modern fleet, the Argentine Naval Command decided to switch their naval doctrine to a coastal submarine defence force.
