Aug 6th, Morning

Today Bell-Boeing announced the V-44 Stork is ready to enter production.

Image

This program started years ago when some limitations were identified with the V-22 Osprey. Military planners have long complained about the low cargo capacity of the Osprey. Initially this was not an issue with the V-22 as most locations it was expected to serve were close to some sort of airfield. With global tensions changing, the rise of the non-nation state “armies/militias” and the increase in world - wide “terrorist violence” military planners quickly noticed the low cargo capacity of the V-22.

The V-44 has a double fuselage design, with each one being 5 feet wider, 12 feet longer and 3 feet higher. This, along with an internal layout redesign has given it a cargo capacity 3 times greater than the V-22. The V-44 also has a base range of about 750 kms more than the V-22. There are some slight disadvantages coming with its larger size. The most important being its high visibility to radar with a stealth rating of only 40.

Military planners have already factored this into the RRF concept. When it is imperative the insertion force remain undetected or when local air superiority is not assured, the MH-47E Chinook SOF will be used. With its 1,275km range, 300t cargo capacity and 130 stealth rating, it will be ideal for small force insertions.

We place a request for 10ea V-44 Stork.

We contract General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to start research into the M8A1 Thunderbolt AGS (Armored Gun System).

Image

This weapon was originally contracted to FMC/United Defense in 1992 (Company has since became absorbed/renamed to BAE Systems). This is a European company and we have made the decision to only use American companies to produce American arms. This is 2 fold; it generates more jobs at home and ensures our domestic industries have cash for Research and Development. The latter is extremely important if we wish to maintain a dominating force with minimal units.

We also requested the DOD to break ground on 10 new Military Complexes, with each one slated to host 6 Missile Fabrication plants.

Image

These are being built in the former Mexico to assist with our program of strengthening that area’s economy. As outlined in the July 4th DOD letter to the President this will be the start of a program to build an estimated 600 Missile Fabrication plants. The decision to build them in the former Mexico came from the reality of high unemployment combined with a low skilled workforce in that area. Factory style, assembly line jobs require minimal training per person and in the long run create a higher quality product due to increased awareness of ones area of responsibility. Each worker only has to be proficient in their single area of the line.

In a meeting with the Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense, the President came to a decision to start the conversion from a large standing army to the RFF concept. Furthermore, it was agreed that we would not sell weapons/arms around the globe to further the military capability of others. And finally it was decided to not sell any weapons technology at all. We will however, being the benevolent nation that we are, give Humanitarian/Medical technology to countries which can be counted on to use it to benefit their populance.

961 ground units, Inf, Mech Inf, Tanks, recon, arty, etc, are ordered to depots for disassembly/scrapping.

Image

We also order 463 airframes scrapped.

Recent events, taken in conjunction with historical actions of certain nations on this planet have made it clear we not only need to have a high tech military force, but we also need to adjust the way we interact with other nations. It is clear to us that we are mankind’s last and best hope for peace on this planet.

When the time is right I will request time from the broadcast companies and we will inform our citizens and the world what this means. I will lay it out in a clear and concise manner so there can be no doubt as to where I and the USA stand. We will shortly be in the 21st year of the 21 century and we are still, procedurally, doing things the way we did 100 years ago. That will change.

The UK requests an alliance. Normally we would agree, however, we are going to forge a new path in this century.

Aug 6th, Afternoon
Situation Room
President Johnson – So ADM, what do the Dragon Slayer plans call for?

ADM Sharpe – Sir, They call for 1 of 2 things, either a land attack from S. Korea, or a naval invasion from S, Korea or Japan.
Sir there is some new intelligence you should be aware of, as a result of our increased recon in that area we have noticed the Indonesians in conjunction with the Philippines have landed on Hainan Island.

Image

If they are able to secure and hold that island, they may launch an attack into mainland China.

President Johnson – Let's see how this plays out for now, in the meantime continue to devise updated plans, using the RRF concept, for dealing with China.

Aug 6th Evening News report

http://youtu.be/uJ6Up1Crths

Whitehouse - Washington, DC.
Situation Room

President Johnson – Clark, bring me up to speed, what happened? It was my understanding the sub situation was taken care of on Jul 27th when we took out their sub tender and related facilities.

ADM Sharpe – Sir, since that time all indications showed the loss of that ad hoc sub base had a huge impact on their ability to forward deploy subs. We have not had a single contact or SOSUS hit since that event. Our best guess is the Chinese have ordered every long range sub they have to sortie and it appears they may be operating in “wolf packs”. The packs are trying to lure our forces in and spring an ambush on them. Cheyenne reports she picked up a single sub cruising normally at 300 feet, when she closed to identify, 2 other subs which has been hovering silently nearby sprang the trap. It was a near catastrophe.

President Johnson – Clark, order all forces to maintain wartime watch conditions regardless of how quite things seem to be. Any further word on the Indonesian and Philippine landings on Hainan?

ADM Sharpe – It is a stale mate at the moment, surprise got them on the island, but now the Chinese have stopped them cold. We believe the Chinese will overrun both positions within days. Neither Indonesia nor The Philippines are in a position to send in reinforcements. The lack of air cover is the major factor here for the two nations. Neither have carrier capability and the range is too great for land based craft. China on the other hand has an airbase right on the island and has been hammering away at them hourly.

President Johnson – I want recon photos of that island so we can see the status of the attackers.

In the above image ground units are seen to move towards the point given to reach. In my game ground units move parallel to the direction of the point I give them. It is very bad, especially if you select units from long distances. They will never meet in the hex you want to gather or attack together a target.

Is there an option to correct that? Or a patch to fix the bug?

It's not a bug, it's an option. There is a "move in formation" button. click it or hold shift to override.

Taking an extended break. Visting the east coast and such for the holidays. Might also visit the S. Pacific, which means it could be as much as 4- 6 weeks before I am back home again and have access to the game/save/story. I still have plans to continue this at some point, was actually waiting to see if anyone was paying attention, thank you for your interest. :)

The story up to now...

USA elects a new President with a firm commitment to forging a new path in the future.

Mexico declares war on USA citing past grievances and is joined by Cuba, USA liberates Mexico, absorbs its territory and placed a naval blockade on Cuba.

China has internal power struggle with new reformer and old hard liner. Hard liner believes with a new, untested, US president in power, one embroiled with severe internal issues as well as a border war, it is the perfect time to strike.

China launches an attack on the Spratly Island chain. US sends in naval forces to test the waters. Chinese submarines attack us forces, US retaliates and sinks some CHICOM subs.

USA declares a Total Exclusion Zone around Spratly Islands, warns all shipping will be attacked.

Which brings us to now..

Whitehouse - Washington, DC.
Situation Room

President Johnson – I deeply regret the loss of civilian life, but the Chinese government is willing to sacrifice anyone in order to further their own power. Those civilians did not have to die…
Holly, what do other world leaders say about this? Do they understand a line must be drawn or am I labeled a barbarian?

Holly Burton, Sec of State – Sir, despite what Ambassador Wu-Tai Chin said, most leaders have indicated to us they support our decision. While it is a tragedy, one that the Chinese government could have avoided I might add, it is necessary to stand up to Chinese aggression.

ADM Sharpe – Sir, we should have those pictures of Hainan for you within a few days. Our estimate is both forces, Indonesian and Philippine, are still stalled. However the recon photos should provide more concrete information.

President Johnson (clearly troubled)- Clark, since this thing with the Chinese started some of my advisors mentioned something to me about a concern back in the early part of this century. The gist of it was much of our defense hardware and some of our software was made in China or by Chinese firms. At the time it was speculated the Chinese could cripple our high tech forces in the event of war. I have asked them to check into this further, with virtually every aspect of our military being controlled by or relying on computers I am concerned.

ADM Sharpe – Sir I remember hearing about that, but it quickly dropped from the radar. If there is even a possibility of interference in our systems we must know now, before this situation reaches the point of no return…

Whitehouse – Washington, DC.

Situation room

ADM Clarke – Sir we have those recon pictures you wanted.

President Johnson – What do they tell us? How are the Indonesian and Philippine forces doing?

ADM Sharpe – The Philippine forces are isolated and out of supply, their naval support has been sunk. The Chinese have them trapped in the NE area of the island.

Image

The Indonesian force has almost been annihilated, despite capturing Ledong, the only units left are a brigade of ATG’s. They did not even get a chance to garrison the city.

Image

Sir, to complicate matters Russian planes are now actively engaging the S. Koreans. We captured this clash off the “west” coast of S. K. It is unclear if the Russians are using Chinese bases. With their new level of cooperation we must consider that possibility.

Image

President Johnson - Clarke, what’s the situation with Cuba?
ADM Sharpe – Sir, the blockade is holding, no naval vessels or aircraft can leave the country. We still have SSNs off each of their ports.

Image

President Johnson – Clark, about 2 weeks ago I asked for a contingency to be prepared should S. Korea ask for assistance. With the Russians now actively engaging them I need that plan now.

ADM Sharpe – Sir as you requested, we came up with a plan limited to Air Forces for now. As we have not yet spun up the Western Command, or any of the RRFs, we will be tasking the 49th Fighter Wing based at Holloman AFB (3 squadrons of F-22), and the 11th and 12 Bombardment wings from Spokane to deploy to S.K. should we get the request.

***World News***
Our last report had Israel pushing north into Syria and assaulting their new capital of Halab. Since then the Syrians have pushed the IDF back approx. 170 miles and recaptured the large military base at Shayrat.

Image
Angola is still advancing on Congo Democratic Republic capital of Kinshasa. Damage is reported in the city and we believe Angolan AF has been striking the Capital and its military base.

Image

Finnish forces have managed to push back the Russian bear and recapture the coastal towns of Kotka and Loviisa. The latter was a priority target as it has a Nuclear power plant.

Image

Eastern Europe is more or less static, with the only exception being Lithuania. Russian forces have pushed down through the middle cutting Lithuania in half. This allows reinforcements to reach the beleaguered troops at Kalengrad.

Fully intended to complete this, but I have read a book recently that is entirely too similar to what I had in mind. It has thrown me off my story path and I find it very difficult to proceed. I may or may not revisit this in the future. :(
