Chekhov, Moscow Oblast - Wartime Command Post for the General Staff

Operation Perseus
Invasion of the UK

While meeting in Moscow for the year end report, the general in command of the air defence forces of the 1st Air and Air Defence Forces Command had suggested a possible solution to thinning out the British Air Force while our forces prepare for invasion. In the western theater in Europe there are a number long range air defence units positioned along the coast, but far too few to make any impact. He suggested that we also temporarily mobilize more of our long range AA units that are protecting our interests on the home front. He suggests that we need to maximize an air defense umbrella that reaches into British Air space covering a good percentage of their airfields on the eastern and southern coasts. Several of our SA-20-S-400 Triumf batterys can deployed onto the network of oil rigs we recently captured to cover the eastern coast of England. Once in position we can carefully position some of our naval units with long range air defence capablilities to add to the density. And then finally Mig-31s, Su-37s, FA-35 fighters of the Operative Strategic Aerospace Defence Command West can lurk off shore at a safe distance launching long range air to air missiles from 150 to 173 km away.

Image

Currently we have about 17 Long Range Air Defence Battalions of SA-20-S-400 Triumfs, SA-10B Grumbles and captured MIM-204 MEADS in the Western Theater. These forces can reach out to 179km to 240 km. We can bolster this force with an additional 5 to 10 within 48 hours. These forces are protecting Moscow and the Kola Penninsula and a few along the Ukraine border and in Turkey. This can be increased 2 fold with LRAA battalions if we borrow from our idle Central Military District and Eastern Military District forces.
We can position up to 5 naval vessels with long range air defence capabilities reaching out to 124km. 3 Prj. 1164 Slavas, 1 CG-1134 Berkut B, and a CGN-1144 Kirov. 2 F-124 Sachsen with a capablity of reaching out to 197 km are also available.

GIJoe597 wrote:It all depends on each persons own style, but generally I may do one or all of the following;

1. Pack European coast with AAA and keep baiting UK's planes into range till they are depleted.

2. Pack waters around UK airfields with the longest range anti-air ships you have, and do same as above.

3. Entrench a few hexes back from coast in France, entice UK's ground units across Chunnel, let them crash against your wall of units and supporting arty

4. All of the above.

Eventually you will wear them down and air units or ground units will only move against you in ones or twos, AI is shot, now do whatever you want at your leisure.

Of course that would not make for a grand story though, certainly not as grand as, we forced a landing on their NW shores, it was hard fought etc, etc :)

Excellant idea!

A high altitude recon mission is conducted over several of the north eastern US ports to check for indications of troop build ups for overseas deployment. No indications of any major buildups other than brigade size concentrations. The majority of US Atlantic Fleet carriers are in US ports with the acception of two carriers off the northern coast of Cuba.

We have relocated one of our high altitude recon squadrons to Cuba to recon the south eastern seaboard of the US. Again, no indications of any troop build ups for overseas deployment.

The small force of Black Sea Naval Infantry holding out inTunisia have finally been reinforced with additional units of the Black Sea Naval Infantry, the 56th Air Assualt Regiment, and the 12th Special Operations Brigade. The Libyian Airforce has been bombing units in the north near Tunis and opposition near Madanin appears light. The 56th Air Assualt Regiment has been given the go to conduct an air drop into Madanin and it is quickly captured. Artillery units of the Black Sea Naval Infantry and Libyian troops quickly advance up the road to support the 56th.

January 21st, 2021
A heavily reinforced division size element of Tunisian light infantry launch a counter attack and quickly surround Madanin and cut off the 56th and catch several of our artillery units out in the open. Our airforce conducts several CAS missions along with Libyian fighters pushing the Tunisian division back. Orders are given to set up a temporary barracks and naval pier near Madanin for repairs and to accomadate our naval transports rather than having to make port in Tripoli.

Our forces have captured the vital Tunisian supply center in Tatawin. CINCSMD is asking for more troops in Tunisia if we are to press any further but has been denied, he was reminded that our orders in the south are to take pressure off of Iran and Libya until after Operation Perseus and we have successfully captured the UK.

This may be the attack we have been waiting for to launch Operation Perseus.

February 15th, 2021
The UK conducts a massive air strike on our air defence troops stationed around Calais and the Chunnel Entrance. A division or 6 sqaudrons of SU-37s from the Operative Strategic Aerospace Defence Command West are immediatly dispatched to intercept and fly CAP in the area. Arial recon shows that the Brits are pushing a sizeble force throught the Chunnel, a tank brigade of Challenger IIIs and a mechanized infantry brigade of FRES have been spotted near the Chunnel. CINCWMD immediatly moves a regiment of T-80s and a regiment of BMP-3s to help counter their push and support the vital air defence units in the area.

February 17th, 2021
The Brits are making are making a larger push than expected and at least 2 tank brigades of Challenger IIIs and 2 mechanized infantry brigades with engineer and artillery support have been trying to push through the Chunnel.

Image

We have already lost 5 units in the area and at least 10 units have been sent to the rear for repairs. The Brits are taking even heavier losses and our carefully placed air defence units all along the coast are starting to wear UK air units down while the majority of our air units in the WMD have not even left the ground yet other than the division of SU-37s. British use of long range air to surface missiles have thinned out indicating depletion.

Image

Vital intelligence gained here. For a successful invasion we will need to stage an initial push in which we will suffer severe losses, once their air strikes show signs of depletion we can launch a massive shock and awe campaign from all directions.

CINCWMD declares that this UK push is a failure and now is the time to conduct Operation Perseus while the majority of their offensive units are in repair. He states that our invsion forces are almost all at 100% strength. Final staging and preperation for Operation Perseus is being requested and he asks for a launch date of March 1st, 2021.

On one hand I feel the UK is probly fairly beaten down by now. After a year of combat and losses they cannot have to many units left. And with its low build capacity the units they loose are not easily replaced. However it does look like they still have radar sights up. And I am sure they still have a decent sized navy near its borders, Plus they probly still have interceptors left. So an air assualt could prove risky. Or course a blitze threw the chunnel could prove just as problematic and risk its collapse.

I guess the key here is to make sure you transport planes have a decent stealth rating and keep them in stealth mode and try to get the timing right so they arrive at the same time. Becouse if you send an early scout that alarms them and they scramble fighters your transport planes can be easily shot down. I also wonder how the UK's missile researve is.

Operation Perseus
Invasion of the UK

The next order of discussions were about the pre-invasion details. As indicated by several members present during the briefing, the UK has a sizeable air force and navy, one that will prove to be a major hinderance to our airborne forces and naval landing forces. As we have noted during the Brits last offensive conducted several days ago, their air power once stirred is massive and will decimate any of our forces in the air with superiour fighters. Their devastating long range air to surface missiles are a major threat to any land or sea unit that gets within range. However, the Brits do not have a large stockpile of their missiles. Their last offensive demonstrated that they could conduct long range strike missions for only about 24 hours and then the long range missile strikes dropped off dramatically. Our strong Air Defenses and the 6 sqaudrons of Su-37s also took a good chunk out of their air forces within that time frame, granted at a significant loss to our forces as well.

We have come up with a pre-invasion plan that breaks down to a recon gathering phase, a massive airfield bombardment phase, a diversionary airborne assault phase intended to stir up the majority of available UK air power, followed by a massive air power disruption phase conducted by our fighters and strike fighters. Finally the a massive cooridinated airborne assault on several key target areas preludes the land and naval invasion.

Image

Phase 1. High altitude recon of primary target areas.
Phase 2. Stealthy infiltration of special operation brigades of spetznaz and spetznaz scouts. These units are to conduct recon and monitor troop movements.
Phase 3. Cooridinated airfield strike by long range air to surface, and surface to surface missiles.
Phase 4. Diversionary airborne assault somewhere in Ireland and or the Aberdeenshire area. This is intended to mobilize UK ground forces and stir up UK air power. (1 - 2 Regiments scheduled to be given the elite "Guards" designation should they survive!)
Phase 5. Once the majority of UK air power is active, we will conduct a coordinated air campaign with forces of the 1st Air and Air Defence Forces Command, Northern Fleet Naval Aviation, Operative Strategic Aerospace Defence Command West, and Long Range Aviation Command.
Phase 6. As the UK shows signs of diminished air power, Transport Aviation Command West and the 1st Air Assault Corps will mobilize a massive simultaneous airborne assault at the 15 desginated drop zones capturing key airfields, naval piers, brigdes, and towns that would slow the initial occupation area on the English side of the Chunel. Target zones may change subject to review. TACWest and 1st Air Assault Corps state that 17 targets can be achieved.

Operation Perseus
Invasion of the UK

Once the airborne assault is underway our land and naval forces will commence. CINCWMD presents 3 options for the land and naval invasion phase of Operation Perseus.

Plan A

Image

As seen in an earlier briefing this month, not much has changed. Primarily a land focused invasion in the south via the Chunnel by 6th Army, 20th Army, and the 1st Expidtionary Army. The 1st Expiditionary Army and 20th Army are responsible for the encirclement of London. 6th Army will drive north cutting the UK in half at Carlisle and then linking up with the Northern Fleet Naval Infantry. In the north the Northern Fleet Naval Infantry will conduct a landing in the Aberdeenshire region and make a push towards Glasgow. Several of our airborne divisions will be available for targets of oppurtunity and reinforcement. This plan leaves out any options for Ireland which is a concern if the brits move their government to Belfast; however, as mentioned earlier, we have several airborne divisions on standby.

Plan B

Image

Starts off like plan A with a push by 6th Army through the Chunnel which will then be leap frogged by 20th Army and the 3rd and 4th MCAB of the 1st Expiditionary Army. The 1st and 2nd MCAB of the 1st EA will conduct a naval landing in the Norfolk region and surround London from the north. Northern Fleet Naval Infantry will conduct a massive landing on the north western coast of Ireland and conduct a thrust towards Belfast. 6th Army, after securing a beachhead on the English side of the Chunnel, will then drive north to cut off UK forces at Carlisle. Again, several airborne divisions will be available for targets of oppurtunity and reserve.

Plan C

Image

Plan C is the favored plan as it focuses on the capture of London and the 2 major alternate government sites, Belfast and Glasgow in one swift blow. In the south 6th Army conducts the initial thrust through the Chunnel and setting up a large defensive area. 20th Army will be responsible for encircling London from the south and west. 1st and 2nd MCAB of 1st EA will conduct an amphibious landing as seen in Plan C and then surround London from the north, while 6th Army assumes the eastern side of the London area.

In the central region, near Northumberland, 3rd and 4th MCAB of the 1st EA will conduct a landing. 4th MCAB is responsible for cutting the UK in half, while the 3rd MCAB surrounds Glasgow from the south.

In the north, in the Aberdeenshire area, Baltic Fleet Naval Infantry will capture the naval pier in Dundee. The main force of Northern Fleet Naval Infantry will land and surround Glasgow from the north.

In Ireland, 2 Naval Infantry BDEs (Div) of Northern Fleet Naval Infantry will conduct a landing and make run for the radar and air defence facility south of Belfast. Once secured the 2nd Air Assault Division will be clear to conduct a drop on Belfast. Several Airborne Divisions will be available for targets of oppurtunity and reinforcement.

Operation Perseus

After intensive review, the majority of the members present agree that Plan C is the best option as it covers the possibility of transfer of government in the UK. Indivdiual Sector commanders breakdown their plan of actions.

Members present in the Military Operations Room have 24 hours for submissions and revisions. Operation Perseus is scheduled to commence at 0400 hours, March 1st, 2021. At our current treasury and funding levels, Secretary of Treasury states that we can conduct operations at our present rate for 14 days unless we make drastic cuts in research and military spending. This campaign needs to be quick so that we may start a new chapter of economic stability and growth in the Russian Federation.
