well here's a quickie to tide you over:

Maybe I should have set relations Very Hot as well. I've done everything up to and including bags of flaming dogsh*t on the Ecuadorans doorstep and nothing. So far the only local action is the Brazilian Dogpile next door. Although on a good note, they are grinding down nicely whilst I wait the eternity it takes to build B-52's and MiG-25's.

I thought I would mention something about Brazil. Brazil starts the game without a bridge near Manaus. There is no way for units to cross. This extremely hampers the AI as there is a Barracks in Manaus and it will send units there to repair, yet they cannot reach it. They stack up just at the river and soon the majority of Brazils Northern Central and North Western units are all gaggled there.

It is ludicrous to me there is no way to cross that river, so EVERY game I start, I first log in to Brazil and build them a bridge there. The AI performs much better when it has that bridge.

lols ya I read something similar from Cold War about the AI French navy occasioanally sailing out in the Atlantic, running out of fuel and just staying there the rest of the game. lmao!

oh here we go! I finally got 4 B-52's and 4 MiG-25P's built and so off we go! Finally the mindless boredom of the last few days building/preparing pay off with some good clean violence!

First off my air assault force:

First off I bomber the oil/gas field facility to croak the garrison units, then helo'd in my Special Forces to take the hex, as well as an unguarded town upper right. That also cuts off all the enemy units on the screen from supply and now I'm bombing them off the map.


everything was going swimmingly when (remember those Ecuadorans?)


oh that's ok, I've been trying to get those yuks to come at me for a while now and have a warm welcome waiting...


The 2 units at center are their's in a city and everything else on screen is mine.

Reinforcements begin parading up the road from their capital (lower left off screen). After a couple white nuckle moments where it was tough to sort out who was trying to go where so I could redirect my arty units, I croaked and/or pushed back everyone in the city and grabbed it. I moved my half stack of tanks onto the road on the Ecuador side of my newest city so if they try to come back they will have to face tanks in the open.



meanwhile, on the other front I bombed and then capped the only Brazilian airfield for some distance. It was below my jumping off point and was definitely on the menu, but now I have left quite an enemy area unsupplied and can use the airfield to leapfrog farther into Brazil when I play again later.



So far, so good. I'm off to the comic store to hang out with a friend, but I'll be playing tonight or tomorrow morning and hope to have another update then.

Woot! Ecuador falls! I kept grabbing towns for their resource production since Ecuador wouldn't accept a peace treaty, and eventually they just collapse.
On more solemn note, flags all across Colombia fly at half staff at news of our first war casualty. A BMP-1 was withdrawing from the line for repairs and took another hit, destroying it. Turns out that the rear troop doors on a BMP-1 are also the fuel tanks... This war was started over coffee and, ironically enough, there was only enough left of the crew and troops inside after the tremendous fireball to bury in a coffee can.



which netted me some goodies...

Operations in Brazil were in low gear whilst I finished with Ecuador, but now I can turn my full attention back to them. And Peru if they don't accept peace.

no time for screenshots right now, just a quick update. Had to slow things down a bit because my few B-52's were stretched pretty thin between prep work in Brazil and keep friggin Peru at bay. For having nothing but a few apc's and engineer units left, Peru was just a little pitbull. I ripped off a few of their resource hexes and a few towns and finally they agreed to peace. I did lose 2 Special Forces units to my CH-53E's frustrating habit of flying almost to a drop zone and then deciding to turn around and come back. The defense minister is locked out, so I dunno wth was going on but it had me pulling my hair out for a bit! Mad props to Special Forces though, as both times when I lost a unit it was because I dropped 2 in a hex against 5 or 6 garrison units only to have the other 4 choppers decide to come back. 2 Special Forces against 6 garrisons and each time I only lost one unit before my guys wipe the garrisons out! Still, I have grabbed several resource hexes from Brazil and as soon as more Special Forces are ready I'll grab a few more, working my way down towards Brasilia. I'm also building airfields and barracks periodically as I advance and that also slows things down whilst I wait. Unless I can work out a transit/supply arrangement with someone in Central America, Guatemala and Mexico are going to require a considerable change in tactics. But that's the fun of picking an off the wall country/goal: figuring out how to make it work.

Helo's are one of my major PITA's. I do not know why they have to constantly try to refuel. This results in them performing extremely oddly when sent on long distance missions. I really wish BG would have fixed/changed the way they calculate this.

ya! they got 1 hex away from the drop zones both times and decided they couldn't make it just one more hex, but seemed to find a way to fly all the way back. oh well, fortunes of war right?

well after some village hopping and grabbing a few more resource hexes, here's what Colombia looks like at present:



Hardest part has been leapfrogging units forward to grab the next village/whatever. Before I finally could devote 100% to Brazil, my B-52's were the workhorses, doing prepwork and odd unit kills in Brazil, or racing home to deal with the rabid Peruvians. Now that I'm in aways its been my poor Ch-53's that have had the wheels run off em. After Brazil, Guatemala is next, and I already have a full transit/supply agreement with Panama. So at present I may stick to land ops, but I'm researching my way to Naval Nuclear Reactors and Catapult Launched something or other. This lets me buy designs for advanced American cruisers and aircraft carriers, because after Guatemala and Mexico, its off to the other side of the world and some of these ships take a year to build.

sorry I been gone so long all. my slog thru Brazil was getting boring and I went off to play a different game for a bit. Back again for now, but going to try a different goal. trying to think up something interesting while the game installs. Maybe Shattered World playing as Illinois (my home state) and attempt to take Canada like the storyline mentioned. I like the map detail with cities I recognize and might be a fun idea. or maybe something involving Cuba. Or Israel. any cool ideas you guys have used in yer own games, even if you didn't post an AAR about it? all ears

That's the problem. There is no direction in this game. It is fun, but its SO open ended that it quickly becomes frustrating trying to find some scenario/goal to pursue. I work 3rd shift, so multiplayer is not really an option for me cause I'm sleeping when all the daywalkers are playing. What we need is come kind of challenge thread where players come post a scenario/goal idea and then everyone tries to see who can do it in the shortest time in terms of years in game. could be something simple, or a just ridiculous challenge that seems impossible and see if anyone can actually manage to do it. Sorry that this thread kinda went

Do some of the scenarios. Most have goals to achieve in a short amount of time.

Reading Tnarg's Russian AAR right now and love it! I have only played with the stock engine so far, and really like the idea of the entire world descending into mindless violence so I'm gonna d/l Ruge's latest mod and have a go. Likely will be as Poland, as I have an special affinity for them what with so many Twilight:2000 modules based there. I also really like the Soviet cold war era equipment, so all the better.
