Talk about a SR 2020 attempted gang attack. (updated)

Post by Benjaminvallen1 »

I'm playing as Germany. I have conquered Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Namibia. My allies (if you can call them that) are the Ukraine, Italy, the Georgia Republic, and South Africa. Tech level is 127.

I recently attacked Belgium. There was no provocation, just pure aggression on my part. 125,000 men charged over the border. They had conquered the region around Paris and Luxembourg, providing me with several targets for invasion. Luxembourg fell within a week, but the larger force, armed with my best units (LAV-5A laser infantry, PzH 2005s, M320's, GMT-2a's, and a smattering of AT units for protecting my ART) pushed for Brussels. The push bogged down quickly, but after nearly three weeks of fighting, much of it a static slug fest, the capital fell.
However, the Belgian front was no longer receiving my priority for resources. Two days after I was attacked, Switzerland declared war. (They had conquered much of central France.) Over the next two weeks, Estonia, Latvia, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, and Zimbabwe joined in. In the third week, The Netherlands DoW'd me. Switzerland was the most important front as I saw it because the territory they were taking was original German territory. They had nearly flanked Munich from the north before I stopped them. More than 60,000 men, primarily reserve formations armed with older M2 Pumas and Leopard 2A6s or GMTs, pushed them back agonizing step by step. A mixed brigade cut off in the south in a city near the Swiss border (I forget which) barely held out until being relieved by my Mountain Warfare Brigade and Air Cavalry Brigade) My forces spread out, pushing the Swiss back. A force of 30,000 pushed for Bern. They reached the outskirts of the city, taking a wide swath of territory behind them. The battle was reminiscent of Stalingrad. Though the city nearly fell and Germany retained territory just outside of it, only 7,000 German soldiers came back alive. Pushed back across the river in the south, the Swiss finally accepted peace proposals.
As all this took place, a large force of Estonian troops swarmed into occupied Poland. The advanced through light opposition and began to flank the highly-prized Bismark Line, a staggered double line of Fortifications along the former Polish/Russian border which included artillery, AAA, SAM emplacements, radars, and its own Supply Depots. The Fortifications to the extreme east were temporarily surrounded and cut off, but a brigade of Puma infantry, soon supported by nearly an entire division of armor, broke through and supported by the German Expeditionary Force, freshly refitted after the conquest of Namibia. Relieving the pressure on Lublin, German forces pushed the Estonian forces back taking Brest and other Estonian cities before a peace treaty was signed.
The Slovakian campaign was uneventful. German forces, roughly two brigades of infantry with light artillery held off the concentrated Slovakian army with minimal casualties. Slovakian casualties were much higher. It was around this time the Swiss campaign was drawing to a close.
At this point, the Netherlands entered the war. Every available reserve was rushed to the border as Army Group Center, bolstered with a hundred thousand men from the Estonian Front overran most of northern Belgium and turned towards Paris, the new capital. Another group, roughly fifty thousand strong encroached on the Netherlands from all sides. With only three thousand casualties, Army Group Center overran Paris and received the final surrender of Belgium. Joining the battle in the north, more than 150,000 men converged on the Dutch capital. After three capital switches, The Netherlands surrendered.
A major naval battle also took place, in which most of Carrier Group Bremerhaven was destroyed while fending off the navies of Belgium, Norway, and the Netherlands. Victory was achieved, but the only survivors were the carrier (CVN-78) Bremehaven and the two short-deck escort carriers. A Norwegian assault force bound for the English Channel was ambushed and sunk by P3 Orions and five submarine wolf packs.
The war has become one of strategic bombing in an attempt to force Norway to accept peace without an invasion. Breaking the treaty, Switzerland invaded again. The again made major gains, but instead of initiating a major battle on the open plains, a force of 150,000 men flanked the main Swiss thrust and captured Bern. Shortly afterwards, they pursued the Swiss government to Geneve. Finally, a third capital sprang up in Zurich, which was speedily overrun. The German government still awaits the Swiss surrender.

oh yeah, check the updates at the end. I will take screens of the aftermath. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any during the fighting. This has been the most fun I have ever had in this game. It was the first time in a war that the issue was truly in doubt. I have lost wars, but I have never fought a war like this where the survival of my nation was truly at stake. This was a damn close-run thing.

oh it was. :)

Update: Switzerland is gone. A three-month bombing campaign against Norway has cost them ten thousand soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilians. Their economy is wrecked. I have captured every one of their oil derricks, bombed all of their hydro power facilities and most of their mines of various things. Neither their navy nor their air force really exist anymore. Their army is scattered with no fuel to maneuver. All the towns, cities, and bases on the western half of the country have been wrecked. And my forces have landed. This will soon be over.

The Swiss are far too agressive in the game, IMHO. I mean, in reality they can't even liberate some hostages in Libya, and in the game they typically conquer 3/4 of France...

Agreed. They were a real pain to take down, too.
