Escort command broken
The "Escort" is broken and has been since the last release.
The escorting unit quickly loses track of its target and stops moving.
I don't expect you to fix it at this late date. I'm just sayin...

Re: Escort command broken
No, that report was from 2008. And that reported problem was much less serious than what is happening (or not happening) now.
"Escort" used to work fine and much later than 2008. It was broken sometime near the last update/release.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it...

Re: Escort command broken
I have no noticed that to be an issue, are you sure this is meant to be posted in 2020 and not SRCW?

I don't even have SRCW.
Are you saying that "Escort" works for you in SR2020, update 6.8.1?

Re: Escort command broken
Yes.
Is there any specific unit that you would like me to try. I am pretty sure I have only used it with ships and planes. And they work.
EDIT: I just fired up SR and sent a F-35 on a 6000 mile flight and ordered it to escort a KC-10. The F-35 has a range of 2600 miles and should have not been able to make it. It did and it drew fuel from the tanker when needed.
EDIT: #2 I tried this with subs, just as the original thread indicated, (no idea why you would order them to escort when it is easiere to just order all three to the same location), I took three subs from east coast USA. Ordered one to the coast of portugal, ordered the other two to escort the first. They have a odd way of getting there, but they met up in the same hex.
EDIT # 3: I then ordered Sub 1 to England and 2 and 3 followed and arrived in same hex. I am going to try from England to southern tip of S. America. At the same time I will order three subs from west coast USA to southern tip of Japan.

Re: Escort command broken
The subs from England to S tip of S. America made it ok.
The subs from West Coast USA to S Japan tip made it ok, BUT, the 2 on escort did veer way SW almost to Colonia before they eventually meet up with #1 sub.
Again, I see no reason to use escort command for subs or ships at all really, just use the formation move. The only units I see a need for it are planes and it works. I cannot think of a reason at all to use it on ground units.
To further test this I ordered a DDG with 8149 km range from West Coast USA to Southern Japanese waters, place a ALGOL on escort..
Bottom line, yes it does appear to be borked on naval, but so what

There were always some issues with crossing the map "seam" which runs N-S near Hawai. Find the zero X hexes if you want to see where.GIJoe597 wrote:...The subs from West Coast USA to S Japan tip made it ok, BUT, the 2 on escort did veer way SW almost to Colonia before they eventually meet up with #1 sub...

Re: Escort command broken
It is a non issue for me, never even knew it existed prior to now. It affects my game play zero. Thanks for response.

Re: Escort command broken
I just tested escorting an aerial tanker again.
I sent a KC-130 from Andrews AFB out to sea. Then I ordered an F-18 Hornet to escort it. I sent the tanker further East out to sea. The Hornet flew to the hex where the tanker had been and circled.
I sent a Stryker unit West. When it had moved several hexes away, I had a tank escort it. The tank moved to the hex where the Stryker had been and stopped.
When I order a unit to Escort and select a target hex with multiple units, no selection menu appears. It is as if Escort is equivalent to "Move To".
This behavior is even worse than in my OP. Before Escort would work at first then the escorting unit would lose track of its target.
Something in my configuration must be hosed. I am using the Ruges mod and I have modified my orders.csv file.
I checked my orders file and found one mistake. I re-cached and the problem has not changed.
Edit: Fixed it.
I narrowed the problem down to the orders.csv file. The Escort line had one of its flags misplaced.
My fighters will escort their tankers now.
