In .units file I increased battalions sizes of some bombers, and patrol planes.

But in game bombers are still 12- battalion size and patrol planes - 6

To change it you need to edit DEFAULT.WMData.

On the 2nd line just change the numbers after it says battstrdefault.

So what does the battalion size (column N in .UNIT) value actually do then? Am wondering because I am looking to alter unit costs and whilst messing around have noticed that if you really lower unit build costs you can actually end up with a higher (much in this case) annual maintenance cost than unit build cost!

Column N changes the strength of the starting units a country has from what I remember.

Ok, I understand that Battalion size is linked to "stregnth" of units, aka how much damage they can take or damage they can give etc. But what I am unsure of is the two different battalion figures, one in the .WMDATA and one in the .UNIT file and how they play a part, and in the labels for column N in the .UNIT it says "# of pieces used when placed in orbats" now I know what the orbat is yet am rather confused by this comment. Like I said all I am looking to do is decrease the maintenance costs of the units which is linked to battalion size and I am looking at halving battalion size then doubling attack values and other things to compensate, what I am really wondering is what other values I would have to increase to compensate! I.e. what values is the battalion size effecting!

Column N is the strength of unit that a country already has when you start a new game.

The strength that is in .WMDATA is for when you build new units after starting a game.

I've not really looked at the .UNIT files for a while now but if you decrease the unit build cost then maintenance cost should go down from what I remember.

Thanks for clearing that all up :) Didn't read your earlier post properly I guess because now I have re-read it it seems so simple!

Edit:

Yeah the maintenance cost is linked to the build cost, however it is not the only factor... As I said before I have actually noticed that a few of the units I have created or modified are actually showing a maintenance cost higher than their build cost. No matter how low I set their build cost their maintenance still remains more than what I want it to be. For example an engneer I am trying to mod has a build cost of $2 million yet a maintenance of $8 million! Not quite the cheap engineer I am trying to create!
