Greetings all

I am attempting to mod the Global Crisis campaign by adding some units to the UNIT file. I downloaded the UNIT tool from the forum and made most of the additions through that. I also made a few in the txt file using notepad.

I copied the Global Crisis cache file, and removed it from the folder.

I started the game as per the instructions in the wiki, reset options, set the game to global campaign and loaded it. After about a minute, it returned to the menu.

I copied the the new "cache-Global Campaign - GC" file into the cache folder, and renamed it, eliminating the "cache -" and "GC."

I started the game and loaded Grand Campaign, choosing the US as my side. The game loads quickly, but when it does, the map has no cities or structures, the date is set to the current date, and there are no units to build or research. I note that the cache file, which was 7000 kb plus before I created a new cache, is now only 2000 and change.

Where did I screw up, and what should I try next?

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

When you saved the .units file quotations got put around the "&&UNIT"

Quickest way to solve this is to open the file up with a notepad. and remove the "" from around the &&UNIT. Also since it appears that you modifing a units file instead of adding your own, towards the bottom of the units file is somthing like &&Resources or somthing like that. make sure you remove the "" from around that too.

Okay, I removed those marks from infront of UNITS and the R-something-something at the bottom, and then saved the file. I tried creating a new cache file again, and got the same result -- the new cache file is less than 3,000 kb (where before it was 7k+) and when I load the GC game their are no complexes or towns on the map, and no units to research or build.

Thanks for your suggestion, though. Can you think of anything else I migh try?

The problem has to be in the .unit file. Rename yours and try using the original to see if that caches properly. If it does, then you know that file is the problem. If you can't get the file working, upload it to the thread and someone will take a look at it and comment.

Indeed, it seems it must be something in the unit file.

I've attached the file (the one with my mods). If anyone would be so gracious as to look it over and see if anything comes to your attention, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Your first line is damaged, it is missing the ampersands (&)

it should be;

&&UNITS

like that. Use Notepad to open the file.

I restored the marks, but the problem still remains; the newly created cache file is still incomplete.
