 Post subject: NEW MOD SUGGEST: Red Alert 3

I suggest we can create a new mod called Red Alert based on the classic strategy series.If anyone likes the idea please post a reply,and tell us with what you can help.Ill help with the unit details,flags,thе country borders and the story.

I thought it was near impossible to change country borders? Sounds very interesting however I am not able to contribute much myself.

It is impossible with out the "house" tools

Not quite! A few months ago I read a thread by Balthagor explaining how you can do it. Move your save game file to the Multiplayer file and load the game as the target country-B whose borders that you wish to change and set his military so that they won't react and declare war on country-A, save game and start as the country-A move your units into the border regions of country-B so as to annex the territory that you want. Save game and move back into the folder that you started with then you can make your Cache file.

It would not be so hard to mod this in, but it takes time since it is large project, you would have to make a new .UNIT file that has units from RA3 and not real world units, new maps(groupings) tech levels and other country data, remaking of the map(groupings, limiting the map to 3 worlds and add/delete cities/facilities etc), new leaders, new flags, new scenarios, new texts etc.

So soon? HUH

What about meshes? Textures? Red Alert 3's units are so diverse to the ones that come with SR2020, without new meshes I don't really see this being immersive enough.

And Red Alert 3 is probably copyrighted. Don't think they would take kindly to the BG community ripping off their units and other concepts.

Its copyrighted, but generally they don't care as long as you acknowledge the creator and that you are not the creator and that its not used for profit.

Still have to be careful. I remember seeing a lot of non-profit projects getting shelved because of copywrite. Granted most were Warhammer 40k projects, but non-the-less. Copywrite is a fickle game that the small guy always looses.

I remember a wh40k fan film getting shelved halfway though production. Looked bloody awesome as well. Good actors/actresses, wardrobe, and VFX artist's. MPAA got it's own was as per usual.

Tesla tanks and Kirovs airships would be awsome, and the only thing I can see being a problem is the lack of cool models.
