Alright, I'm making a mod of the Shattered World scenario for my own amusement and need ideas for country names that might arise in the North American continent. Either realistically, or for fun [An extension of my FRCA-based personal mod, with the conquerable international waters].

So far I've got the Federal Republic of Central America [Not NA, or plausible anymore, I know but dammit I love that flag and concept], the Republic of New England; which houses the New England and Mid-Atlantic states, the Quebecois Bloc; a dictatorship that has hostile control over the Canadian Maritimes, and what's left of loyalist Canada; which is Ontario, the mid-west provinces and possibly Michigan [don't know whether or not to lump this in with the rust-belt states and make them more hostile].

Currently planned is a New Confederacy, Free Texas [oh wow, that one is so hard to put in], Cascadia and maybe Deseret. Any ideas for countries would be appreciated; even if they seem sort of implausible; we can just toss a little actual history down the memory hole and say it was always like that.

Bonus Query: Technologies. I know Ruges has an excellent mod [and indeed, I am inspired if a little intimidated by it], but I was thinking of tweaking the technologies a bit more. More techs that give palpable bonuses upon researching, such as Reactive/Spaced Armour giving small bonuses to hard unit armour values, for instance. A good idea, or no? How does the AI research?

Edit: Changed title a little, and another question; is there a way to tell why all of a sudden SR2020g is crashing upon trying to make a new cache file? I've narrowed it down to the .cvp and .regionincl but I don't know exactly what. Region number too high on the custom countries? Some countries won't work unless I include their composite regions in the .incl but some won't work unless I *don't* include them. It's all confusing. :( I've even completely removed my custom countries and it still continues to crash.

I would Give Oklahoma to the native americans as "The Unified Tribes" or something.

I wish I could slice up some of the states into smaller regions, I would totally do this. A big sprawling thing.

Heh, you know I have put hmm, you know what I dont know how many hours I have put into it thousands? It kinda started out as just wanting to put some more higher tech units in, (before GC the max was like TL140, and even then some of the higher unit trees where empty (IE I wanted more advanced Carriers, and Missles). It has turned into the monster it is now. Catatonic is now even helping allot on some of my tech discriptions, and more units. What I would sugest you do is, if you really want to make a mod, read threw the wiki a few times. read threw some of the longer posts in this section (theres allot of burried data in these posts), And go threw every file. it wont make sense at first, but spending a day or two just reading and going threw it 2 or 3 times Some of it will start to click in your head. But as for techs

I have ran into a simular situation before, I cannot remember what it was, but it sounds like you are looking in the right location. keep it up.

Evenualy there are two other mods I want to work on besides my main GC mod. One will be a US Vrs Russia mod. Only the US and Russia will be active. Every other nation will be UN controlled. it will be sort of the hot war scenario. Then I also want to make a few MP variants. They will be for 1vrs1, 1vrs1vrs1, 1vrs1vrs1vrs1. These maps will be setup where every player has the same amount of territory, no units at the start, the same amount of cities and industy, the same population, the same techs, and TL, bases and facilities. basicaly each player will start out on an even footing.

I eventually found the problem to be the Scenario Override file; originally, way back when, I had taken the Global Crisis override and put it on my custom scenario which had more in relation to the Shattered World campaign, then edited it to include the only custom country I had. Then when getting ideas to create new nations out of North America I changed all the numbers around so it would be easier for me to personally find.

I just finished North America's 0.10; just the borders, government types, and tech levels. Later on I'll extend national waters using a glitch I found with the scenario override file and customize the relations between the different governments. In no particular order; the California Republic, the Texas Protectorate, the New England Republic, Dixie, the Quebecois Bloc, the Rust Belt Coalition, the Kingdom of Athabasca, Cascadia, Lakotah, and the Flyover Republic.

I ran out of room on the first flag file, then much to my chagrin I didn't find very much going through the rest of them. Is there a way to add new graphics files, or am I stuck with 0 through 8 and have to scavenge for every single tiny little empty space?
