A peaceful and all allied shattered world

With more regions available at once, who will you trade with? Who will you ignore? Will you trade for products, technologies, military designs or treaties? How much will you trade with your future enemies?

A peaceful and all allied shattered world

#1 Post by Asimov » Oct 27 2008

I am playing Malaysia in my first SR2020 game and enjoying the new system. Everything is fine, nice economy, good tech and strong military. However, the almost complete absence of war around the world is just spooky. The only war that had happened between 2020-2026 is the 2nd Korean War, with South Korea assimilating DPRK at the the end.

I understand "Shattered World" is the peaceful variant of "Melting Pot", but we are talking about a massively unbalanced world in the campaign (As compared to today), there is no war in Asia even if both Japan and ROK have large numbers of fab slots (I've 100% CB against Japan and about 75% CB against ROK). The only thing AI ever did was allying with tons of other AI nations and trade. Is a shattered world supposed to be this peaceful?

I finally figured why the world is at peace. Almost all AI nations are allied with each other.

Are you running the latest version 5.4.1?

Have you read the campaign descriptions PDF included in the game folder? This may give you a clearer picture of what to expect from each campaign.

I don't think there should be... "Campaign X everyone hates each other.. Campaign Y everyone loves each other." There should be a campaign with a fair amount of conflicts and alliances

"fair" is a opinion...

But you can infiuance your games, change the difficulty levels and/or manipulate the world market.

And if you want a war for your own country: http://www.bgforums.com/forums/viewtopi ... 47&t=12096

Yes, I've just bought SR2020 two days ago and I did have read the descriptions. I've chosen "Shattered World" to have a easier first game, but lack of war is really unnerving. How could the AI nations have war with each other when all AI nations are allied with the whole world?

regions will break treaties at times.
some of the calmer scenarios are meant to allow the player to make the first move.
when you say that all regions are allied do you mean ALL of them or just lots and lots of alliances?
what difficulty level are you playing on? on the easiest level there might be more allies, and when you declare war you might see less consequences on easy, for example.

I've not checked all the countries, but looking at 1 country picked at random from each continent, it looks like the sampled countries are allied with all other regions. May I offer you the save file?

As for difficulty level, I concede that's my own fallacy. I've recently change diplomatic difficulty to "very hard" and the provacation value of other countries gradually goes through roof. Now almost all AI regions, except my allies, has a "high" provacation value.

I believe I had this also. Also, playing as Malaysia. The only war was between NK and SKorea at the start of the game, dont know exactly when though. I was playing campaign world 2020, v5.4.1 patch.

Everyone is allied to everyone. From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, I mean A-Z. Everyone. Except with me ofcourse

No problem. Just do it. Ok, maybe you should start a new game after you have conquered the world...

The calmer scenarios should allow the player to do the first move, but not ALL moves, and maybe different moves in subsequent steps, not all at once. Once you've declared war on too many nations, all your neighbors tend to declare war on you. This keeps you in a persistent state of desperate war until you've grown big enough to take the challenge to beat all your rivals.
I would like to fight fierce wars, but with a possibility to come to an end after some time or after decisive victories.

And the thing is, I would like to see wars in other regions of the globe. It seems all the world is watching only at me.
The scenario is called World 2020, and not "2020 altruists and one rogue".

Damn straight. This is a very big problem. It's not even that realistic. I mean who is attacking USA when they attacked two nations illegally?

The developers call this realistic, when it's not and it's just boring and not fun at all. I want to have some wars every now and then and relax and do things behind the door, instead of starting one war means war with the whole word. Seriously, you will start a war with everyone if you start a war.

You mean, you should do the first move, without any CB? You can, play with very easy. Get treaties with everybody, except for your victim, and after some time your relations are good enough. Do anybody declare war with 100% CB and good relations since 5.41?

You have a lot of options to manipulate AI-DOW´s against your nation, its on you to use them.
