AI techs

Any way to make the AI build up their tech faster? It would be nice if they didn't always end up 40 levels behind me after 3 or 4 years

It has todo with the AI Priorities. Research costs allot. and they keep the sliders even for all. So they spend a ton on tech level increase. which means at 100 percent its taking one year to raise one tech level. This costs a fortune. So they lower it down. but it also lowers research effeciency and projects. From what I have seen they tend to be in the 40 percent range. So the player can easily outpace this.

Now there is a way to make the AI focus on research. However by doing so it then negates its economy and military. So it is easily conqured or its economy goes to crap and it lowers its research.

Also most players go crazy with the number of facilities they have. Most tech level increases come from researching techs that provide tech level boosts. So again players quickly outpace the AI.

Also in the tech level 115-125 there are allot of techs that provide tech level gains. This also causes players to quickly spurt ahead of the AI. However it is becouse of these techs that you see countries like china, japan, germany increases there tech level at all.

All in all there is nothing you can do about it. Well thats not true, this is an issue that has bothered me too. The player can quickly surpase the AI. and again this is becouse of tech boosts on techs. Now you cannot just remove the tech bonus, its tied into the cost and length of the tech. And you could just make it cheaper and faster, but that would not be right either. So the solution to this would be to find every tech that provides a tech bonus, lower its time and cost by 4 times. Now create 4 new techs and make them the prereq with its prereq the prereq of the one you are lowering. So now you have 5 techs that dont cost as much and dont cost as much and dont give tech level bonuses. However they amount the the original techs cost. This means noone will recieve tech level bonuses, and in order to increase you tech level would only be threw funding. Which again your going to top out at about 2 per year. still 60 percent faster then the AI, but nowhere near the 20TL's your currently geting.

Anouther solution I have thought of reguarding tech levels and the players outpacing to quickly would be to create tech blocks. Basicaly making a new line of techs. They would have a new one every 10 tech levels. Each one of these techs would take no less then 10 years to research. And it would be the prereq for every tech in its tech range.

Certainly prefer the first solution, even if it is because then you are not sitting around with nothing to research and gaining no new units. Although if you ran both of your ideas alongside each other you could very easily control the rate at which techs are researched as at very most a player could race ahead in a particular block, yet you can also tie in units being unlocked along the way so you don't have a large amount of seemingly useless technology researched...

Now if only someone where to implement this...
Much Thanks
