Leipzig Games Convention
With all the work we've been busy doing, we have not forgotten that we will need to show stuff to the public at some point. We will be starting to show concepts to the press at the Leipzig Games Convention, so we should have some screenshots or concept art to share on the webste and here either just before or just after the show. Stay tuned for more details...
Also, in the latest press release, we have announced that the units and buildings will now be generated as 3D models in game. The old 2D sprites are no longer used in the new game engine (although they make good place holders as we do our development ).

Well, as they are no longer sprites, but are now 3D Meshes, it would be much more difficult. No one ever bothered to mod the pics for SR2010 into NATO symbols and that would have been easy (though time consuming). As with SR2010, we won't be creating such a mod ourselves, it would be up to the community to figure out how to do it. We will have details post release on how to mod the models.

Remember, those are press releases, they are intended to impress reviewers, not end users. We have to be aware of the mass market if we wish to be successful business people, and "ability to coordinate attacks of various military branches" just doesn't attract much attention. We have done in depth analysis of all the feedback we received for SR2010 and "approachability" was one of our biggest criticisms (even above AI!). Each of us in the dev team has pages of notes relating to game mechanics and AI but with a total rebuild of the GUI, we need to complete that so we can work in the new framework. We need an Alpha build at the least to work in when implementing AI stuff so we can evaluate our changes. While we are ourselves far more concerned with gameplay over visuals, the game needs to fit more with modern games visually if we want to be around to make future titles.
This is one reason things have been so quite lately, there is not much to talk about in the areas we're currently working, the big discussions will occur when we get into the core mechanics.
Besides, what more would we say in a press release? We can't exactly start listing areas of AI improvement, if we are successful in expanding our market base a very large portion of our target market will never have touched SR2010 so making comparisons seem ineffective.

If the Goats want to maximize the press angle -- and they hope for a big splash in Leipzig -- they should have a demo with German armor units overrunning France on a continuous loop with "Deutschland über Alles" playing in the background.red wrote:Oh, it's nice to hear that's just the press release and industry angle. I don't really understand what that's like. Here's waiting for beta discussions on gameplay...

I can see it now.
Bg shows up at convention, shows a demo of gameplay in which germany invades some other country.
2 days after the convention,German players misss the game soooo much, they get together and invade Poland and /or France/ and or Russia and /or etc...
8 years later,Germany is beaten back and all the countries sue BG
