Two serious points though. The slight jump into the future is well placed. As complicated as the unit handling situation can be at "game start" inside your own territory, I am not sure anyone could handle playing the U.S. as troop deployments stand right now. Secondly, I look forward to playing some of the smaller regions, that was always one of my favorite things about 2010 and I am sure it will continue to be a selling point for me in 2020.

also wouldn't the US have troops like in every country in the world practicly?
This would mean they would need to start with transit treatys with everyone otherwise all these units would either be destoryed or win everyone straight off.

Hhehhehehe, nah its only like 70% (something like circa 135 out of circa 200 recognized independant states)last i heard. But i dont know if that includes troops at embassies,or counts embassies as faciltiies

I think this should be the case in any event.Lets face it, no matter what the storyline or games current scenario, somewhere in the world some region will be friendly enough with some other region to have troops based in its lands.
So regardless of whether we are tlaking about a current world scenario, or a storyline scenario i think this is something we should be seeing in the game anyway.Pre-existing treaties of all kinds should be more present in the game in my opinion, instead of the blank slate we see so often

i think the story with regards to units is much like it was in 2010...
in 2020... when things change in the world... "forces go home"... so the US has it's current forces divided among their own divided states. (Current forces with a few forces planned for the future added, and future retirements removed...And we made other creative modifications too.)
Now this is fine for the "Shatter World" scenario. For the World 2020... regions will be stationed in their own countries too... so it's a map with borders similar to today, with "forces at home". There are many ways to mod the game and create special groupings, and other map settings... so I'd imagine that one day a player or one of us on the dev team will create a mod with some simple transit treaties and drop forces into other regions. But that is for the future.
Will the AI produce as many units as it does in SR2010? Will its love affairs with the engineers continue?
