Two more examples would be the French at Dien Bien Phu and the US Marines at Khe Sanh both however were in remote areas, the French in a valley the US Marines on top of hills.

If you have control over the skies, then enirclement is not a worry. The 6th army did have some level of supply by the Luftwaffer, although ultimatley the supplies was no where near enough. A non-combat example would be The Berlin Airlift.

Enicrlement penalites would add an extra level of fun I think if it was ever introduced. Perhaps just a close combat penalty for full encirclement if it would be too much stress doing it via the supplie system.

Some other examples would be Merill's Marauders in Burma, the British at Singapore, the Americans at Corigidor and Bataan, or the Luftwaffe Fallschirmjägers at Eben Emael and Crete. In WWI most people forget about von Lettow-Vorbeck's East African campain.

Or the Defense of Malta.

Malta was supplied by ships of the royal navy and by it's own sources (the few they had between the Luftwaffe raids).
