New In-Game Settings/Modes

Post by catatonic »

I would like to see the following options incorporated into the In-Game Settings panel. You could probably add a new panel just for missile behavior itself:

Missiles:

1. No launch authority - Surpresses Default Missile Launch Authority for player only.

2. Keep last missile - Do not auto-fire last missile.

3. Single fire - one single manual missile fire per <Space> key press.

4. No Close Combat - Prohibits auto-firing of missiles into Close combat hexes.

5. No Facilities Attack - removes facilities from attack/fire missile target lists.

6. Battle Mode - changes keyboard mapping to use Battle Buttons.

7. Entrench Mode - "Move-To" means "Move-To and Entrench".

8. Scrap Mode - Surpresses scrapping confirmation. Instead displays a scrapping notification.

9. Filter Including Reserves.

10. Filter Select All.

With the fragmented missile inventory lists containing somethimes hundreds of entries per catagory, missile Launch AUthority is difficult, approaching impossible to manage. So either add a fifth button to the Missile fab sub-panel to control Launch Authority pre-build, or allow the player to turn it off globally. It would be much simpler to turn this off globally for all missiles than having to go through long lists of your loaded missile platforms and individually turning off the Launch Authority for every missile type loaded on every platform.

Item 2) is an attempt to keep the game or the DM from dumping all of our missiles at dumb targets like garrisons. It would keep the last missiles with Launch Authority on each launch platform from being auto-fired, saving them for some intelligent targeting input from the player.

Item 3) is another missile-conservation measure. Currently a P-3C unit of 6 planes targeting a single enemy partol boat will fire at least two volleys of missiles at the little boat. That is 12 missiles to take out a boat that should be disabled with one and sunk with two Harpoon missiles.

If instead you send a Fighter unit of 18 or 24 planes then they will fire 36-48 missiles. With this mode enabled, the user can use the "Fire Missile" command and one missile platform in the unit will fire one missile each time that the user presses the <Space> key.

Item 4) would keep the game from automatically pumping missiles into a town or fortification where the target is impossible to hit. Manual firing would still be possible.

Item 5) would simplify target lists by removing bases, cities and other facilities from your "Fire Missile" or "Attack" target lists, since such targets are often impossilbe to destroy anyway. "Target Facility" would still be available in case you have a lot of missiles to waste.

Item 6) would change the keyboard mapping for battle situations as explained here:

http://www.bgforums.com/forums/viewtopi ... 44&t=16268

Item 7) eliminates the hundreds of extra menu choices that I have to make in the game by manually entrenching each on my units when I place them on the battle-line. It they are ordered to "Move-to" a hex, they will move there and Entrench there automatically.

Item 8) would simplify scrapping units after capturing a region like China that contains literally thousands of junk units.

Item 9) would add Reserved units to the list when you use a "Filter By" option such as "Add Highlighted Types". This would allow you to scrap all units of a certain type globally.

Item 10) would highlight every unit that is "selected" with the "Filter By" command. Currently units that have current orders appear on the list, but they are not highlighted and are not really "selected" for commands. This requires the user to manually process long lists of units and highlight the missing units, in order to issue a common command to all of them. This often results in the player mis-keying and losing the highlights already accomplished.
