Limiting the game's area?

If I'm not mistaken, the main source of blocking is the calculation of all units' trajectories, combat values, speed and all the other fancy stuff, so is it possible to shut down certain areas of the game (like Asia for instance)? I mean completely shutting them down, covering them with FoW and killing the nations in them.
What do you say?
