king of all bombs ?

Post by qgbnorman »

the Tsar Bomba , with a blast yield of 50mt is the largest bomb ever tested , tested in 1961 by the USSR.
by contrast the Trident II (D5) UGM-133A can only cary 8 w88 warheads with a yield of 475kt each max yield of Trident II is 3.8mt .

50,000kt bomb : fireball 4.6km fire ball not blast radius
w88 warhead 475kt : fireball .7km est

Forgive me for sounding rude, but what is your point? :-?
All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

Yea i heard it was the biggest bomb but it was a prototype for a 100mt bomb. I know the flash and sound was the greatest every created by man and the flash could be seen in moscow. I wonder if it could make it into 2020? Na i doubt it - it was only a prototype and they found out just after it was dropped that a lot smaller bombs would do it better. This would lead to MIRV's that we know today.

The USSR was fond of big nukes. In large part, because their missles were thought to be somewhat inaccurate and the larger payload was to compensate.

From a modelling point of view -- little difference. A smaller (though big in it's own right) explosion on target, or a bigger explosion a few hundred/thousand meters off target has the same affect.

For the most part, you really only need to differentiate nukes by their delivery system for a game on SR2010/20 scale.

Will 2020 have a MOAB or a Grand Slam equivalent, or for our massive bombing needs will we have nuclear options only?

At release I don't expect we'll have the MOAB in, there are some balance concerns we won't have time to look at for this sort of unit.

Either in an update or I expect someone will mod it in...
