A bunch of issues with the game can be lessened using this simple method.
a)AI not using tons of units it has deployed,in a war its losing ground in.
Simply load the save in multi, picking said AI region as that to be played, and issue move to orders to the AI units.
Simply moving them into the area of the current frontline will allow the AI to reconize they could be better used at said frontline, allowing said AI to move said units into the battles there.
I experimented with this in sr2010, and it worked well.It seems so far to work as well if not better in sr2020 GC.
b)AI not at war,yet still has huge amounts of units deployed.
Simply go in as above, and order said units into reserve.Alot of them will stay there after you switch the control of the region back to the AI.
c)modding too hard, too much work, too time consuming ?
In the case of unifying countries, its a simple case of taking them over and having them fight wars to the outcome you want.
d) build caps too low ?
Simply go in and issue the build orders required for the regions desired.
e)everyone allied with everyone else ?
Again, simply go in and break them up.
etc...
Its a very easy way to get alot of changes you might want without having to go thru the mod process.
In sr2010, i used this method to have Lybia conquer most of africa as an AI, setting them up as my arch foe ( i was playing South Africa)
In sr2020GC, im currently exploring this option again, creating a map with various nations as large super powers who have gobbled up their neighbors. You can create some very custom maps this way,and spend most of the time playing your region of choice as the map creates itself due to the orders youve given

just remember, this is a basic form of modding, any savegame can be turned into a cache file.
No reason to stop at this, give it a .Scenario and share!
But yes, the above method does work.

The problem is, while you are controlling the other country, the AI is wrecking yours.

I believe it's possible to run multiple clients and join the same LAN game, effectively giving you control of multiple nations. Just alt-tab between them, so you can control your country, and another at the same time.
BUT - there is an issue where loading up a MP save in SP sometimes causes the player to be in control of the UN. This will break your save, unless there's some line of code that can be edited in the save file like 'playerNation = 57;' or something like that to reset it back to your original country of choice.
I dunno.

The way to prevent the AI from messing up the country your running, is to only run the clock for one tick each time you switch to an AI country.
You need that one tick often to get the changes youve made to become set, you dont need time to run past that.
So load the single play as multi, enter the game as the AI region you want to improve,DONT start the clock, make the changes you want, then run the clock one tick, save, and move on to the next AI region you want to make changes too.
